Os Cariocas – Minha Namorada (1990)

.
.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 06 de Novembro 2008.
Comentários originais incluídos.

Hello, good evening! I found this album on one of those old vinyl shops in Rio, and I always thought it was just a compilation with tracks taken from previous albums.

If I knew this is the first album recorded by Os Cariocas after a 21 years hiatus, I would have made it available at Loronix earlier. Minha Namorada features a repertoire with the greatest Os Cariocas tunes. The cover brings autographs of each component, where Quartera signs in place of Luiz Roberto, who unfortunately died in this period. Confirmation is needed, but I believe this album was signed by Os Cariocas after the tragic Luiz Roberto passing.
Let’s see.

This is Os Cariocas – Minha Namorada (1990), for Som Livre. It is unbelievable this album is out of print. The recording quality is amazing and I really recommend that you take good headphones to hear the sophisticated vocal arrangements made by Severino Filho. Os Cariocas is really a unique and very special vocal group.

Tracks include:

Personnel

Severino Filho
(piano, 1st voice, arrangements)

Badeco
(violao, 2nd voice)

Luiz Roberto
(bass, 3rd voice)

Quartera
(drums, 4th voice)

01 – Minha Namorada (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 – Samba do Avião (Tom Jobim)
03 – Tema Para Lúcia (Severino Filho)
04 – Samba da Pergunta (Pingarilho / Marcos Vasconcellos)
05 – Você e Eu (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
06 – Ela É Carioca (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
07 – Wave (Tom Jobim)

Sonia Lemos – Pérola de Agonitá (1976)

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 23 de setembro 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

Let’s move forward with the Samba Saturday posts showing an artist released in the end of 2006 with her debut LP,Sonia Lemos – Sonia Lemos e Sua Viola Enluarada (1968), the
one with Sonia Lemos at Copacabana beach in your left. It is a very nice album with Sonia Lemos performing as a Bossa Nova singer.

If you see this cover, it is easy to understand that Sonia Lemos made a shift from Bossa Nova to Samba de Raiz music with Afro-Brazilian religion influence, such like Clara Nunes and Beth Carvalho. Let’s see.

This is Sonia Lemos – Perola de Agonita (1976), for Continental, featuring Sonia Lemos 8 years after her successful debut LP. Definitively, she is also a great Samba interpreter, but not in the first tier, such as Clara Nunes. I could not find much information about Sonia Lemos to bring more clarification on her shift, but Pedra de Agonita is solid, like any other recording in the style and counts with a constellation of Brazilian musicians.

Tracks include:

Personnel

Luiz Roberto, Oberdan
(arrangements)
Dino 7 Cordas, Waldir
(violao 7 cordas)
Ary, Valter
(violao)
Neco, Carlinhos
(cavaquinho)
Jorginho, Copinha, Jaime Araujo, Altamiro Carrilho, Oberdan
(flute)
Joel
(bandolim)

(piano)

Gordinho, Ilton Vaz, Jorginho, Nene, Elizeu, Marcal, Luna, Alberto das Neves, Zapelli, Doutor

Pareschi
(spalla)
Penteado, Macedo, Pissarenko, Fideles

Briola, Watson Clis

As Gatas, Copacabana, Tuti, Raul Moreno, Genival, Amaro

Hello, Good Evening! The weekend is approaching; friends are now home or celebrating with co-workers another successful working weekend. I confess that I would like very much to do the same, but something that was working for months decided to break today and this parrot is like a soldier, he never gives up. That’s why I’m taking advantage of a more than necessary repost, the original link was down and now we have important upgrades on each aspect of this great album, one of the first contributions made by Caetano Rodrigues to Loronix. Let’s see.

This is Tema Tres – Tema Tres (1966), for Atonal, which is the first album released by this important instrumental trio. Tema Tres delivers Samba Jazz renditions of Bossa Nova standards, a few international songs and two Gilson Peranzzetta compositions 07 – Tema Tres and 09 – Angela. Everything is upgrade including a missing back cover, Exact Audio Copy of FLAC files and improved MP3s.

Tracks include:

Personnel

Gilson Peranzzetta
(piano)
Luiz Roberto
(bass)
Gilberto Alban
(drums)

Track List

01 – Tem Mais Samba
02 – Razão de Viver
03 – Call Me
04 – Alvorada
05 – Amanhã
06 – Cidade Vazia
07 – Tema Três
08 – Un Homme Et Une Femme
09 – Ângela
10 – Barra Limpa
11 – Felicidade Aconteceu
12 – See You in September

Caro Zeca,

Hello, Good Evening! moos never stops amazing me. His great passion to the Music from Brazil and the work he is doing on improving his ripping and image processing skills makes me feel very proud of having moos as our great friend. He sent this fantastic album using the Mail Big File icon and just wrote a message with no signature. Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m quite sure this LP came from moos. If I’m wrong, please correct me. If I’m right, moos, say hello, please.

This is Tema 3 – Madrugada 1:30 (1969), for Equipe, following the very nice Tema Tres – Tema 3 (1966), for Atonal. Release date is uncertain (*** not anymore,
Justin sent the correct date on comments section) but it was probably released in 1967 or 1968. Tema 3 is lead by the Brazilian pianist and maestro Gilson Peranzzetta, credited as Gilson Peranz by Equipe. The trio also features Luiz Roberto (bass) and Atayde (drums) with the special guest, arranger and violao player Alberto Arantes. I’m not sure if the bassist Luiz Roberto is the same from Os Cariocas, this is something that Loronixers can confirm on comments. Several others musicians are credited as special guests on some tracks, you can check the full listing inside the music. Thanks moos, you are a great finder.

Tracks include:

Personnel

Gilson Peranz
(piano)

Luiz Roberto
(bass)

Atahyde
(drums)

Track List

01 – Andança (Danilo Caymmi / Paulinho Tapajós / Edmundo Souto)
02 – Grão de Café (Luis Bonfá)
03 – Walk On By (David / Burt Bacharach)
04 – Ela Vem de Volta (Roberto Neves)
05 – Sabiá (Chico Buarque / Tom Jobim)
06 – Zond 5 (Gilson Peranz / Luis Cardoso)
07 – The Fool On The Hill (John Lennon / Paul McCartney)
08 – Samarina (Antônio Adolfo / Tibério Gaspar)
09 – Trem da Manhã Branca (Norival Reis / Jorge Duarte)
10 – Afro (Alberto Arantes)
11 – Amazonas (João Donato)
12 – Watch What Happens (M. Legrant)

Good question, the current file keeper is the best available so far on any given criteria, from my perspective and also from Loronixers perspective.
I’m sure I could not make it as it is today with another provider.

Luiz Roberto - Velha Guarda em Bossa Nova (1960)

Hello, Good Evening! Some albums you buy only by the cover. Sometimes you get a little bit frustrated when you get home and see that you purchase a beautiful cover and bad music. This is not the case, Luiz Roberto is an obscure singer that I could not find any information about and he sings Samba on top of Bossa Nova in the background. I bought it today for a real bargain with my friend Flavio Samello, a cool Loronixer from Sao Paulo that came to Rio. Flavio has a website and made some photos with zeca available there, don't miss it, here and here.

This is Luiz Roberto - Velha Guarda em Bossa Nova (1960), for Continental. As far as I could search, Luiz Roberto released only this LP and made some participation on TV Globo novel OSTs in the early 70's. I've been wondering today if Luiz Roberto from Os Cariocas and this Luiz Roberto are the same person. This is something that is up to you to research.

Tracks include:

01 - A Tua Vida É Um Segredo (Lamartine Babo)
02 - Vou Partir (João de Barro)
03 - Isaura (Herivelto Martins / Roberto Roberti)
04 - Maria (Ary Barroso / Luis Peixoto)
05 - Aos Pés da Cruz (Marino Pinto / Zé da Zilda)
06 - Emília (Wilson Batista / Haroldo Lobo)
07 - Ai Que Saudades da Amélia (Ataulfo Alves / Mário Lago)
08 - Favela (Hekel Tavares / Juraci Camargo)
09 - Cordiais Saudações (Noel Rosa)
10 - Até Amanhã (Noel Rosa)
11 - Só Pra Chatear (Príncipe Pretinho)
12 - Se Você Jurar (Francisco Alves / Ismael Silva / Nilton Bastos)

Thursday, 24 May, 2007Hi Zeca,
Your suppositon is right, they are exactly the same person.
As far I know, Luiz Roberto recorded only this beautiful LP as a soloist artist, and after this he became a Carioca's member.

Hello Zeca,
today I took the time to listen to the complete album. Very intersted this samba/bossa mix- especially the second half of this album has great moments with bossa guitar.
Another nice album which is in Caetano's book.
Thank you !!
