Tania Maria - Tania Maria Live (1979)

.
.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 17 de maio 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos

Hello, Good Evening! Everybody knows that Tania Maria is among the artists that I have limited knowledge about, but I know that Tania Maria puts her heart on top of everything she makes, mainly live concerts, which are the ones that I like most. This concert was first made available with the help of Jean-Yves, also known as Jean do Trombone, and now Caetano Rodrigues makes it again on a better quality, for mine and for Loronixers pleasure.

This is Tania Maria - Tania Maria Live (1979), for Accord, live performance at the Azzhus Montmartre, Copenhagen, featuring Tania Maria (piano and vocal), Andre Ceccarelli (bass) and Marc Bertheaux (drums). I decided to make it with no track separation, delivering to Loronixers a single track for each side.

Martoni:
Hoje resolvi atualizar essa postagem porque, por uma razão que eu não conheço, é uma das cinco postagens no blog RF&E mais visitados.
Agora com as músicas separadas

Tracks include:

01 - Mr. & Mrs.
02 - Cartomante
03 - Pingas da Vida
04 - Seu Dia Vai Chegar
05 - O Que e Amar
06 - Carona

Varios Artistas - Hits da Bossa Nova (n° 1) (1963)

.
.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 10 de abril 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

This is the first out of five records released by Philips between 1963 and 1964 with the "hits" from the artists of the Philips cast. What a cast! Hits da Bossa Nova is probably one of the best compilations I have ever seen. In spite of the nice repertoire selection, Hits da Bossa Nova features tracks never released on regular recordings, providing a guaranteed entertainment for starters and experienced collectors.

If you are new to Bossa Nova, you should take it.

This is Hits da Bossa Nova (1963), for Philips, featuring Tamba Trio, Sylvia Telles, Sonia Delfino, Carlos Lyra, Baden Powell, Lucio Alves and Sergio Mendes.
You cannot go wrong with such selection.

Tracks include:

Performers

Tamba Trio
Sylvia Telles
Sonia Delfino
Carlos Lyra
Baden Powell
Lucio Alves
Sergio Mendes

Track List:

01 - Samba de Uma Nota Só – SYLVIA TELLES
02 - Desafinado – TAMBA TRIO
03 - Meditação – SONIA DELFINO
04 - Outra Vez – SERGIO MENDES
05 - Quem Quiser Encontrar o Amor – CARLOS LYRA (never released)
06 - Do Jeito Que a Gente Quer – BADEN POWELL
07 - Samba Triste – LUCIO ALVES
08 - Nós e o Mar – TAMBA TRIO
09 - O Amor e a Rosa – LUCIO ALVES
10 - Improviso Em Bossa Nova – BADEN POWELL
11 - Corcovado – SILVINHA TELLES
12 - Tristeza de Nós Dois – SERGIO MENDES
13 - O Barquinho – SONIA DELFINO
14 - Chora Tua Tristeza – CARLOS LYRA

If you can make it on 320Kb with cover scans I will be pleased, as well Loronixers.
Thanks.

Hi Zeca,
I checked all the tracks on this record. All but two came from well kown Philips LP`s by these artists (Lyra`s "Quem quiser encontrar o amor" comes from his "Depois do Carnaval" LP). "Desafinado" by Tamba Trio comes not from one of their early LP`s, this must be a track from a single. "O Barquinho" by Sonia Delfino is not on her Philips album "Canta para a Mocidade", perhaps also a single- track.
Hits da Bossa Nova Vol.2 has two tracks by Luiz Henrique which are not from his Philips LP but from an early EP-Single. Unfortunaly my copy of this Lp is very scratchy. I hope you will get it with better quality.

zecalouro on Wednesday, 11 April, 2007
Thanks Frank-oliver,
I really thought this Lyra track was never issued on any media.
Don't be afraid about this copy, I found it on a very good condition.
Cheers, zeca

I'm recording Hits da Bossa Nova 2 at the moment - the vinyl looks to be in excellent condition, sadly when I've played it there are a few clicks and pops.
I'll send it your way as soon as possible Zeca but I fear the clicks might be a bit too much.

Samba 5 - Moderninho (1970)

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 07 de abril 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

Hello, Good Evening! I was checking the last five days and without knowing all first posts made were from obscure artists and the hard to find albums.
This time I decided to make a test drive with some Loronixers that are also vinyl collectors and none of the friends had seen this group and this album before. Let's keep the pace and show Loronixers another Marcelo "Sambasonics" Munhoz contribution that probably you never heard about.

This is Samba 5 - Moderninho (1970), for Tropicana. Little is known about Samba 5, probably a quintet that released only this LP for the label Tropicana. Personnel is also unknown and it seems to be recorded by known musicians, the drummer plays very nice and the record was mixed to highlight his work. Thanks for another one, Marcelo.

Martoni (12-04-2014): graças a cantora Marcia Calmon temos agora mais detales sobre Samba 5.

Marcia Calmon:
Oi, tenho aqui do meu lado o responsável pelos arranjos e sax do disco "Samba 5 - Moderninho". Era mesmo um quinteto e os músicos que participaram da gravação são:

Tranka Oliveira
Sax e arranjos

Totó
baixo

Jota Jr.
piano

Írio de Paula
guitarra

Tatá
bateria

Tracks include:

01 - Wave (Tom Jobim)
02 - Januária (Chico Buarque)
03 - Aos Pés da Cruz (Marino Pinto / Zé da Silva)
04 - Mudando de Conversa (Hermínio Bello de Carvalho / Maurício Tapajós)
05 - Você Passa Eu Acho Graça (Ataulfo Alves / Carlos Imperial)
06 - Keep Talking (Donato / Crystal)
07 - Bom Tempo (Chico Buarque)
08 - Lapinha (Baden Powell / Paulo César Pinheiro)
09 - Pra Machucar Meu Coração (Ary Barroso)
10 - Sá Marina (Antônio Adolfo / Tibério Gaspar)
11 - Roda (Gilberto Gil / João Augusto)
12 - Bye Bye (Carlos Imperial / Jorge Roberto)

Pedrinho Mattar - Um Show de Mattar (1971)

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 27 de maio 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

This album was on my wanting list for another purpose, to address a request of Juliana, a personal friend that is absolutely crazy for Pedrinho Mattar in all phases. I finally got it this week and decided to hear before giving it to her. That's the story behind this post, Juliana agreed to show it to Loronixers and said to mention her name. Thanks Juliana!

This is Pedrinho Mattar - Um Show de Mattar (1971), for Copacabana, featuring Mauricio Einhorn (harmonica), Tita (vocal on track 03), Coral de Joab, Pedrinho Mattar (piano) and Moacyr Silva as producer and coordinator. Um Show de Mattar is a transitional album between the Samba Jazz works from the 60's and the piano virtuoso years, it is easy to identify both phases throughout the tracks. Mauricio Einhorn delivers a solid harmonica playing, especially on track 02 - Conversa de Botequim.

Tracks include:

01 - Darling Lili (J. Mercer / Henry Mancini)
02 - Conversa de Botequim (Noel Rosa / Vadico)
03 - Nirvana (Tita) with TITA
04 - Tu Mi Delirio (C. Portillo de La Luz)
05 - Sex-appeal (Fred Falcão / Arnoldo Medeiros)
06 - What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life (Michel Legrand / A. Bergman / M. Bergman)
07 - Tenebroso (Ernesto Nazareth)
08 - Anônimo Veneziano (S. Cipriani)
09 - Depois do Carnaval (Marilena Amaral / Sebastião Tapajós)
10 - Theme From Love Story (F. Lai / C. Sigman)
11 - Lúcia Esparadrapo (Antônio Carlos Marques / Jocafi / I. Tavares)
12 - Vim (Eduardo Souto Neto / Sergio Bittencourt)

Hello, Good Evening! Yesterday was one of the days that I like most at Loronix, all releases were great and different to each other. I did not expect so many people amazed with Quarteto em Cy and Formula 7, mainly Formula 7, a repost. Anyway, as people feedback at comment section, Formula 7 had the participation of renowned musicians that still active today. Let's start the day very strong with a long time request by many Loronixers.

This is Cynara e Cybele - Cynara e Cybele (1968), for Columbia. This was requested since Loronix beginning, probably as the solo album of Cynara and Cybele from Quarteto em Cy and also for the participation of Dory Caymmi as arranger of all tracks, actually, there is an exception, Luiz Eça is in charge of track 07 arrangements, Januaria. Production is in charge of Helcio Milito.

Tracks include:

01 - Pelas Ruas do Recife (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle / Novelli)
02 - Carolina (Chico Buarque)
03 - Rasguei a Minha Fantasia (Lamartine Babo)
04 - Lua Cheia (Chico Buarque / Toquinho)
05 - Fala Meu Amor (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
06 - Anjo da Noite (Dorival Caymmi / Danilo Caymmi)
07 - Januária (Chico Buarque)
08 - João Ninguém (Noel Rosa)
09 - Lua Nova (Maurício Tapajós / Joaquim Cardoso)
10 - De Onde Vens (Dori Caymmi / Nelson Motta)
11 - Rancho Pra Quem Vem de Fora (Tamir Drumond / Kátia Drumond)
12 - Até Segunda-feira (Chico Buarque)

Wow! Thx a lot for this one, Zeca!
I would call this album Quarteto em Cy's "stripped to the bone". The interplay between the girls' voices, the velvet orchestration and the smooth percussion makes it one the most beautiful albums of Brazilian music, for me. Really loved it!

Luiz Roberto - Velha Guarda em Bossa Nova (1960)

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 24 de maio 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

Hello, Good Evening! Some albums you buy only by the cover. Sometimes you get a little bit frustrated when you get home and see that you purchase a beautiful cover and bad music. This is not the case, Luiz Roberto is an obscure singer that I could not find any information about and he sings Samba on top of Bossa Nova in the background. I bought it today for a real bargain with my friend Flavio Samello, a cool Loronixer from Sao Paulo that came to Rio. Flavio has a website and made some photos with zeca available there, don't miss it, here and here.

This is Luiz Roberto - Velha Guarda em Bossa Nova (1960), for Continental. As far as I could search, Luiz Roberto released only this LP and made some participation on TV Globo novel OSTs in the early 70's. I've been wondering today if Luiz Roberto from Os Cariocas and this Luiz Roberto are the same person. This is something that is up to you to research.

Tracks include:

01 - A Tua Vida É Um Segredo (Lamartine Babo)
02 - Vou Partir (João de Barro)
03 - Isaura (Herivelto Martins / Roberto Roberti)
04 - Maria (Ary Barroso / Luis Peixoto)
05 - Aos Pés da Cruz (Marino Pinto / Zé da Zilda)
06 - Emília (Wilson Batista / Haroldo Lobo)
07 - Ai Que Saudades da Amélia (Ataulfo Alves / Mário Lago)
08 - Favela (Hekel Tavares / Juraci Camargo)
09 - Cordiais Saudações (Noel Rosa)
10 - Até Amanhã (Noel Rosa)
11 - Só Pra Chatear (Príncipe Pretinho)
12 - Se Você Jurar (Francisco Alves / Ismael Silva / Nilton Bastos)

Your suppositon is right, they are exactly the same person.
As far I know, Luiz Roberto recorded only this beautiful LP as a soloist artist, and after this he became a Carioca's member.

Hello Zeca,
today I took the time to listen to the complete album. Very intersted this samba/bossa mix- especially the second half of this album has great moments with bossa guitar.
Another nice album which is in Caetano's book.

Here we go on another special post celebrating Caetano birthday. I'm confident that Loronixers will be amazed with this one. This album brings together several things Caetano likes, such as: Bossa Nova, instrumental music and airplanes! Yes, Caetano knows everything about airplanes, he can say by heart details on models, capacity, dimension, fuel consumption, etc. Let's see.

This is Fogueira Tres - Varig 1927 - 1987 (1987), no Label, a promotional album recorded by Fogueira Tres to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Varig Airlines. The music is truly amazing and the production is very sophisticated with celebration logo on side A and Varig logo on side B, as you can check by the images and click it to enlarge. I'm in a rush today and I could not check if Fogueira Tres tracks were never released before, anyway, it is a really nice assembly that you should take by the music and scans of covers and vinyl.

Tracks include:

01 - Garota de Ipanema
02 - Samba de Verao
03 - Corcovado
04 - What Watch Happens
05 - Wave
06 - The Gentle Rain
07 - Agua de Beber
08 - Ela e Carioca
09 - Batida Diferente
10 - Amazonas

Varig has sponsored a lot of records. I believe that they were not sold on the stores, Varig just made them available to their passengers as exclusive offers. This makes these records almost impossible to find. One that's legendary is Rogério Duprat's "Ritmos no Ar" (64). Now here's a challenge for the mighty Caetano! :-) Happy birthday to our guru!

Anonymous on Thursday, 24 May, 2007
Nice music, thanks to Varig.
But I think the record was produced for their 60th aniversary, otherwise the dates on the cover are wrong: 1927-1987, to me it is 60 years.

and while we're with airline promotional albums, do you know or could you possibly spot the Marcos Valle & Azimuth promotional record done for Cruzeiro in 1972?
i have been hunting this one down but unsuccessfully so far. it seems to be quite rare and should be a quite interesting production since this was a good period in Marcos Valle's carrer.

I’m very smart on saving this album for a special occasion, Caetano's Birthday. I hope this album can thrill the master. I'm quite sure that Caetano has it on his never-ending vinyl collection, but the idea is celebration and this album is perfect for the occasion. Let's see.

This is Sinter - 5o Aniversario do Lancamento do 1o Long-Play Nacional (1956), for Sinter, a very special album for Caetano's birthday, the legendary Sinter label tribute to the 5th anniversary of the first Brazilian LP in 1951. Sinter made a compilation of their main 10-inches released between 1951 to 1956, a truly unique and amazing album featuring sixteen tracks and 42 minutes of music, something really hard to see by that time. The cover artwork is also amazing with thumbnails of early Sinter 10-inches, the original releases of this fantastic compilation. Happy Birthday, Caetano.

Sergio Mendes - Sergio Mendes' Favorite Things (1967)

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 19 de maio 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

I think my Sergio Mendes education is over with the release of this brand new contribution from Caetano Rodrigues, or at least "phase one" education has gone to a term. A couple of days before I understood my worries about Sergio Mendes, blame it on the Arara album with a Macaw at the cover with the wings clipped on a way I never saw before. Who knows later I show you this album, widely unknown Sergio Mendes LP.

This is Sergio Mendes - Sergio Mendes' Favorite Things (1967), for Atlantic. I decided to do not make any kind of research about Favorite Things and based on I heard this is another "transitional" Sergio Mendes album from the Bossa Nova oriented years to the late more "commercial" Sergio Mendes. The Favorite Things title suggests a compilation; anyway, Caetano should bring more clarification tomorrow when I reach him by phone, although I'm sure I will wake up with several comments waiting for approval.

Tracks include:

01 - My Favorite Things(R. Rodgers / O. Hammerstein II)
02 - Tempo Feliz (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
03 - Ponteio (Edu Lobo / Capinan)
04 - Veleiro (Edu Lobo / Torquato Neto)
05 - A Banda (Chico Buarque)
06 - I Say a Little Prayer (Burt Bacharach / H. David)
07 - Comin' Home Baby (B. Tucker / B. Dorough)
08 - Boa Palavra (Caetano Veloso)

É a Roda Viva...

A friend asked sometime ago at the Cbox about a brazilian version of this magnificent standard "My favorite things" remembering the definitive version made by Coltrane. I became interest on that, I love this song, especially Coltrane one, and had never listened a brazilian version. When I saw Mendes assuming the responsability of recording it I became really interested on that. What a great surprise I had, excellent version made by the great Sergio Mendes.

It is always nice to visit an old vinyl shop with a friend to hunt records together, but some embarrassing situations always occur. It does not happen with Caetano, that has everything and the last time that happened was with Moos, from the Netherlands. The situation happens when your friend find first the record that you are looking for. It is a weird feeling, because you stay happy and a little bit sad at the same time. Not a problem with the great Moos that sent the ones that he found first just when he arrived home.

This is Ed Lincoln - Seu Piano e Seu Orgao Espetacular (1963), for Musidisc, really above the average Ed Lincoln album, lyrics in most of the tracks, Orlandivo and Pedrinho Rodrigues as special guests and that infectious Hammond B3 organ groove provided by Ed Lincoln. I decided to keep Moos ripping untouched, so you will have eventual clicks and clacks at the end and beginning of each track.

Tracks include:

01 - Miss Balanço (Heitor Menezes)
02 - Só Danço Samba (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
03 - Vou Rir de Você (Heitor Menezes)
04 - Influência do Jazz (Carlos Lyra)
05 - Um Samba Gostoso (Ed Lincoln)
06 - Vamos Balançar (Carlos Imperial)
07 - O Samba É Bom Assim (Pra Mim) (Hélio Nascimento / Norival Reis)
08 - Pra Que (Silvio César)
09 - É Um Estouro (Jaime Silva / Neusa Teixeira / Luis Pereira)
10 - Balansamba Nº 1 (Luis Bandeira)
11 - Tristeza (Ed Lincoln / Luis Bandeira)
12 - Olhou Pra Mim (Ed Lincoln / Silvio César)

Here we go again with another Caetano Rodrigues contribution, this time different, since Caetano gave this record as a gift on my last trip to Sao Paulo. Thanks Caetano. However, simplicity is not a word on Caetano's dictionary. Caetano said to let it ready and wait for further instructions. That's what I did, like a soldier and the instructions had just arrived here: release at 1 Million Hits day. Very wise of Caetano, 5 artists together on a single album is really a celebration.

This is Juntos! (1988), for Phonodisc, featuring Edu Lobo, Johnny Alf, Taiguara, Pery Ribeiro and Sergio Ricardo. I just spoke with Caetano about Juntos! and we agreed that some tracks were released only at this album and never were made available on regular releases by these artists. Any help to realize which are the songs never released on regular albums is really appreciated.

Tracks include:

02 - Uma Vez um Caso - EDU LOBO
03 - O Amor da Justica - TAIGUARA
04 - Chega de Saudade - PERY RIBEIRO

Nice collection, but it looks like these tracks all come from LPs released during this era, mostly on Continental. For instance, the Edu songs are definitely from Limite das Águas (Continental, 1976). The Johnny Alf songs may be from Desbunde Total (Chantecler, 1978), but I don't know if they're the same versions. Ditto for the Pery songs, which may be from Pra Tanto Viver with Luiz Eça (Continental, 1986), the Taiguara cuts (Canções de amor e liberdade, Alvorada, 1983), and the Sergio Ricardo (Do Lago à Cachoeira, Continental 1979).

Hello, Good Evening! One of the favorites Caetano Rodrigues musicians is back to Loronix, Izio Gross, a widely unknown artist in Brazil, but an acclaimed musician overseas, especially in German, the country were he lives and made most part of his discography.

This is Izio Grosss y Su Ritmo - Bossa Nova in Rhythm (no date), for Kubaney. I have been searching for info about this album with no success. Caetano says that Bossa Nova in Rhythm was recorded in Mexico and he is right since Kubaney is a Mexican record label. I've been searching also at Izzio Gross official website and among several itens on his discography, this one is not listed. I think it should be listed; this is one of the best Izio Gross albums I have heard with vivid Samba Jazz renditions of Bossa Nova standards.

Tracks include:

01 - Desafinado
02 - Zelao
03 - Tristeza Alegre
04 - Noite do Meu Bem
05 - Eu-e-o-Rio
06 - Murmurio
07 - Barquinho
08 - Dindi
09 - Palhacada
10 - Samba de Minha Terra
11 - Quem Quiser Encontrar o Amor
12 - Ceu e Mar

I have been thinking about showing this album every week since last year and now I have some reasons for making it. Yesterday, Ipanema Sun asked for it using a comment at Astrud Gilberto post and today, I was talking with Ronnie Mesquita about another Bola Sete album that he played drums, Sheebaba, which is one of the greatest Bola Sete albums in my humble opinion. Everything leads to Bola Sete - Ocean.

This is Bola Sete - Ocean (1972), for Takoma. Breathtaking guitar only album blending meditative Bossa Nova renditions with vibrant Flamenco tunes. Another reason for do not make it before was complexity, Ocean sounds strange at a first hearing, but it is the kind of album that rewards you more and more on every new hearing you take. I hope people also reward Ronnie, Ipanema Sun and zeca to bring Bola Sete to the spotlight again at Loronix.

Tracks include:

01 - Vira Mundo Penba
02 - Guitar Lamento
03 - Let Go
04 - Macumba
05 - The Lonely Gaucho
06 - Inn of the Beginning
07 - Xango Xengo Xerengo
08 - Ocean Waves (O Mar)
09 - Jongo
10 - O Astronauta
