Para encerrar esta semana de Antonio Carlos Jobim no Rádio Forma & Elenco vamos mostrar o Disco de Bolso n° 1, (foram editado somente 2 Discos de Bolso).

O tom de Antonio Carlos Jobim e o tal de João Bosco.
Esta é a primeira gravação de Águas de Março, com Tom Jobim cantando, feita para a coleção Disco de Bolso, um encarte do semanário carioca O Pasquim. O compacto tem do outro lado Agnus Sei, de João Bosco, que fazia sua estréia em disco.Tom não toca nenhum instrumento, e sua voz deixa transparecer a dificuldade de cantar a letra em um andamento um pouco mais rápido que o das outras gravações que fez mais tarde. Pequenos problemas com a emissão de voz e afinação pouco incomodam os fãs de Tom, e acabam conferindo um charme especial a este momento de grande importância histórica.

Olá amigos do FORMA E ELENCO, hoje se comemora mundialmente o dia da Mulher, e nosso programa não pode deixar passar em branco esta data, afinal uma grande parte das melhores músicas (talvez a maior parte) já produzidas pelo homem, foram inspiradas por elas.








E além de serem fonte de inspiração, são também muito bem representadas na história através das mais lindas vozes das grandes divas cantoras (eternas).

Nossa simples homenagem será apresentar músicas com nomes de mulher, compostas por grandes nomes da música brasileira, na interpretação de: Luis Melodia; João Gilberto; Dick Farney; Elis Regina; Joyce; Tom Jobim; Billy Ecksteine; Lúcio Alves e outros.

Today was my Daddy’s birthday, a great day for me. He took one of his albums from his collection to make available at Loronix, but I arrived late at home after birthday celebration and I could not make the transfer on time. Anyway, not a big issue, since I’m making one of the albums he likes most and an awaited repost requested by many Loronixers.

Let’s see

This is Elizeth Cardoso – Elizeth Interpreta Vinicius (1963), for Copacabana. The second cover belongs to the first original Copacabana issue and the first has Vinicius de Moraes and it is the one that I like most. Elizeth Interpreta Vinicius features Elizeth Cardoso performing Vinicius de Moraes repertoire with arrangements of Maestro Moacir Santos and the guitar of Baden Powell. 
With these credentials, I don’t need to set up a poll to evaluate if this LP addresses the preferences of our community. Besides the participation of Moacir Santos and Baden Powell, remaining personnel is so far not confirmed.

Hello, good evening! Joao Barbosa is really connected with relevant dates of Brazilian music. Earlier this week, he told us about Carnegie Hall concert 45th anniversary and yesterday he told me about Joao Gilberto birthday, today, November 25, when Joao Gilberto celebrates his 75th birthday. Happy Birthday, Joao Gilberto, thanks Joao Barbosa and thanks a million Dona Iara for providing this album, making possible our little homage.

PS.: Forget about Joao Gilberto’s birthday, it is not today, but June 10th. My fault. Joao Barbosa did not say that yesterday. Let’s put this parrot off-line!

Zecalouro wishes he was one of those guys in front of a nightclub in Copacabana (1962), Rio de Janeiro. These guys are ready to enter inside Au Bon Gourmet to watch the legendary show were the mighty Aloisio de Oliveira put together Joao Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes, Os Cariocas and Milton Banana to play several Bossa Nova classics performed and heard for the first time.

O Encontro was never released as a recording and it is an essential and part of Brazilian music history. zecalouro is really proud to present this show to Loronixers. has also a recording of the complete 1962 Carnegie Hall Concert. As Ruy Castro writes in his Bossa book, the whole recording
exsists, it was aired through radio all over the world and through TV(!)in Brasil.

Now, if only someone would “discover” a recording of the legendary 1962 bossa tour in Italy of Joao Gilberto on vocals and guitar, Joao Donato on piano, Tiao Neto on bass and Milton Banana on drums. Possibly the greatest bossa quartet to every play together and until now there’s no sign of it being documented ANYWHERE. Que pena.

Another thought after recording is one of Carloy Lyra with Stan Getz.
Lyra toured as a special guest with
the Stan Getz Quartet from mid 1964
up to 1966, before he settled in Mexico. They toured the USA (Newport Jazz Festival), Canada, Europe and even Japan. Gary Burton told me per e-mail that there was a recording in Japan, but the tapes were lost. But the Newport Show, for example, was aired through radio.

About the Carnegie Hall Concert:
On the original Audio Fidelity release and the Ubatuqui CD is only
half an hour of the concert. The original concert was much longer,
for example the part with Jobim was not on the record. Ruy Castro describes the whole concert in his book and says, that collectors in Rio have the complete recording.

Loro,
Inegavelmente dois grandes movimentos que mais tarde se transformaram em discos (graças a Deus), marcaram indelevelmente os primeiros passos da Bossa Nova em sua vitoriosa caminhada rumo ao sucesso.
O primeiro foi o encontro no restaurante AU BON GOURMET, na Avenida Copacabana, Rio, em agosto de 1962, em que figuras carimbadas como João Gilberto, Tom Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes e o grupo Os Cariocas se reuniram sob a batuta de Aloysio de Oliveira, durante uma temporada de 45 dias, para tornar público aquilo que todo já conhecia pelos rádios e cantarolava pelas ruas cariocas.
Só para se ter uma pequena idéia da importância desse show foi nele que Garota de Ipanema foi apresentada publicamente pela primeira vez. Outros cinco clássicos da BN também inéditos foram lá apresentados: Só danço samba, Samba do avião, O Astronauta e Samba da Benção.

Imagine o seguinte diálogo, improvisado, logo no primeiro show:
João: Tom, e se você fizesse agora uma canção, que possa nos dizer, contar o que o amor?
Tom: Olha, Joãozinho, eu não saberia, sem o Vinicius para fazer a poesia….
Vinicius: Para esse canção se realizar, quem dera, Joãozinho para cantar…
João, (humilíssimo): Ah, mas que sou eu? Eu sou mais vocês, melhor seria se cantássemos os três….
Os três juntos: Olha que coisa mais linda, mais cheia de graça….
Esses caras eram demais.
Sorte nossa que tudo isso foi gravado. De modo precário, mas foi. Durante a execução do disco, notem a total descontração da platéia, interagindo com os músicos, atitude hoje totalmente impensada.
Conta a lenda que esse disco juntamente com 78 rpm de João Gilberto de 1958, que Caetano alega nunca tê-lo ouvido, são relíquias que alguns privilegiados os tinham sob sete chaves e que se recusavam terminamente torná-los públicos. Hoje, graças ao milagre da internet, nós, pobre mortais podemos desfrutar desse prazer. Esse movimento além de ter se tornado o maior momento da BN no Brasil, teve também o seu lado triste, pois foi a partir dele que Tom e Vinicius se separaram e nunca mais compuseram algo juntos. Lembremo-nos que Vinicius além de Embaixador do Brasil, também tinha outras atividades, e foi em busca de novos parceiros (Baden, Toquinho e Edu), enquanto Tom começava carreira internacional.
Mas a incomensurável obra que esses dois gênios nos legaram estão ai, mais vivas do que nunca, revolucionando, apaixonando e mostrando ao mundo nossa riqueza musical.
Ah, sim, o outro movimento foi a ida da BN ao Carnegie Hall, EUA, em novembro de 1962, mas isso é assunto para outro papo.

Valeu meu broder ”pour la publicité” que você me faz ! Nesta época quando eu tive que lipar esses dados ainda eu não trabalhava com o ferramenta da Sony chamado Sound Forge Pro 10 Full e o som que era dificil ficou meio àcido e foi muito trabalho por pouco resultado a final de conta !
Espero com tempo tentar refazer estas gravações vindo de um toca fitas da época que um ”privado” levou là no Bom Gourmet e utilisou para gravar.

I had the chance to watch a little performance of a new and very solid Brazilian vocal group, Grupo Nós Quatro, a quartet of voices lead by the mighty Celia Vaz, a Brazilian arranger, violonista and composer, with songs recorded by many Brazilian artists and arrangers delivered to classic albums, such like Dom Um Romao - Hotmosphere, one of the most downloaded albums at Loronix.

I spoke with some friends at that concert about this Brazilian vocal group - Grupo Chovendo na Roseira - introduced to me by Carlos Braga and just a few said know their existence. That's why I think this nice album will make the day of several fans of female vocal groups. Let's see.

This is Grupo Chovendo na Roseira - Interpreta Tom Jobim (1988), for Som Livre, another Caetano Rodrigues contribution made by request of Carlos Braga. Carlos knows everything about Chovendo na Roseira and sent to us a nice text with the information that nobody knows, as follows (Carlos, correct if I made a mistake on translation, please):

"Grupo Chovendo na Roseira features Bia Paes Leme, Belva, Soraya e Lu (daugther of singer Carlos Jose and nephew of Luiz Claudio Ramos, which is a violonista and official Chico Buarque arranger). In the year of 1977 the group had a different name, "Quatro Cantos" and as far as I know, they did not released any recordings. I tried to produced a LP, with the help of Raymundo Bittencourt, but the girls had others name in mind -- the violonista Ary Sperling and the pianist Joao Reboucas -- their mentors at that time.

Later on, the group got new members - Ary Sperling (vocals) and Ronaldo (vocals) -- and changed their name to Viva Voz, with one album already available at Loronix. When Viva Voz terminated, the original girls of "Quatro Cantos" assembled Chovendo Na Roseira and lauched this first an only tribute album to Tom Jobim with Orchestra arrangements by Eduardo Souto Netto, also in charge of some vocal arrangements. The other arrangements are from Bia Paes Leme, which made a career as arranger after the end of Chovendo na Roseira.

In my opinion this album is wonderful, with highlights to the soprano voice of Lu (Luciana), the beautiful arrangement of Estrada do Sol, my favorite. I sure Loronixers will appreciate this album."

Hello, Good Night! The daylight saving days are over in Brazil and it is something that changes Loronix business as usual, mainly for the friends out of Brazil. If you are from Europe, you will see the first post one hour late. Folks at the opposite direction of our zone, one hour earlier. The only friend that does not give a damn to this change is zecalouro, he is driven by mother nature. Happy parrot.



Anyway, since you have already an introduction to this post looking at my homemade cover design, I will be straightforward, saving your time at this start of another day at Loronix.


This is Antonio Carlos Jobim & Astrud Gilberto - Viva Brasil, Live at "Jazz aus Südamerika" ZDF Jazz Club, Germany (1988), and no Label. I took sometime with the help of tcisalpino to understand what we had, this is the audio of a live concert, extracted from the video, featuring Antonio Carlos Jobim, Astrud Gilberto and probably with the accompaniment of Banda Nova. We could not check if Banda Nova is performing at this concert. If you have this video, it will be of easy identification, please let us know.

The tracks with Jobim do sound like he is accompanied by Banda Nova. The sound and arrangements are unmistakeable. I have not seen a German performance, but I've seen and heard the Banda Nova performances from the same era in Japan, Canada, and eslewhere.
These tracks with Astrud almost sound like they were recorded in the 70's. Is that Helio Delmiro on guitar? The pianist is also very good, but I'm not too familiar with which musicians traveled with Astrud...
Anxious to hear more concrete details about all of this!

These are excerpts of two seperate concerts Tom Jobim and Astrud Gilberto gave in Germany for the TV station "ZDF" in Germany, the "ZDF Jazzclub".
The two shows were first aired seperately, later this best of show was made.
Jobim played with his well known "Banda Nova", Astrud with a group and guest Paulo Jobim.
I will give you the full personnel of this group later.
The same group plays on the Astrud Gilberto/James Last album.

The Jobim and Banda Nova concert was recorded on April 25, 1988 in Leonberg, Germany.

The Astrud Gilberto concert is also from 1988, same place.

Personnel:

Marcelo Gilberto(bass)
Duduka Fonseca(drums)
Jay Russell Ashby(trombone).
Special guest on some tracks: Paulo Jobim (guitar/vocal).

The Gilberto/James Last album is from 1986 with a different personnel.

I spoke with Caetano and hour ago by phone and I'm happy with that phone call, it was useful to remember this record, we simply forgot it among several options we had to make this tribute. I would be very disappointed if I did not remember this album, a truly awe RGE compilation of instrumental Jobim songs played by the Bossa Nova Trios, Combos and artists that we love together at Loronix. Let's see why it should be so disappointing if I have missed it.



This is Homenagem a Antonio Carlos Jobim - Instrumental 2 (no date), for RGE, featuring Paulinho Nogueira, Raul Mascarenhas, Zimbo Trio, Pedrinho Mattar, Quarteto Bossamba, Dick Farney, Raul de Souza, Som Tres, Os Intocaveis and Breno Sauer Quinteto. I spoke with Caetano about this record and he said that some tracks were only released by RGE in single or EP, so I think this LP be a great excitement to Loronixers.

The tracks listed as played by "Quarteto Bossamba" are actually played by Walter Wanderley, double tracked on both piano and organ. I recognized both arrangements immediately as I have them on his albums. If you doubt he is on the piano, listen carefully and you will hear the Hammond B3 organ playing also.

This is the great close of the first day of 48 Hours of Tom Jobim tribute. I hope you have enjoyed, just as I had a tremendous pleasure on making it with Caetano Rodrigues assistance. The idea was to show several different aspects of Antonio Carlos Jobim music, being of use for those who never had the chance to hear Jobim music and also for fans with unique Jobim's LP. Tomorrow we will have our second and last day, completely different from the first one. I will appreciate a lot if you provide feedback on this tribute, so we can make better plans for the remaining tributes that will be scheduled throughout 2007. Thanks!



This is The Adventurers - Original Sound Track (1970), for Paramount. The film is known as bellow standard, but the great highlight is the sound track with music by Antonio Carlos Jobim. A very hard to find LP sent by Caetano to our tribute.


The Adventurers landmarks the first recording of two important Jobim songs, Children's Game, changed to Chovendo na Roseira when got lyrics of Jobim and Dax & Amparo (Love Theme), changed to Olha Maria when lyrics from Vinicius de Moraes and Chico Buarque de Hollanda created the lyrics. The Adventurers is arranged and conducted by Eumir Deodato.

Some people say that this movie is horrible. I never seen it. But the soundtrack is marvelous, historical, as you said. Presenting some Jobim classics for the first time. Good job Caetano and Zeca...

I find it interesting that most movie books (Like Maltin) rate this movie as a "bomb". This happens to be one of our favorite movies. If you get a chance to see it be sure you do. We have this film in our VHS library and have watched it many times over the years.
Having the score is another thing. One more piece of music from Jobim is marvelous.

This tribute has been a great idea. It makes those two days a very special time to remember this incredible artist who composed and interpreted this music that makes us to have so intense moments.
I am very grateful to your effort, Caetano and Zeca, in doing this "memento". I support the idea that those great artists who constantly are found in the pages of Loronix, have their tribute day. The celebration of their birthday or the date when they passed away could be the best moment, in a similar way you have made with Jobim. They deserve it.
I suggest the next one would be Vinicius de Moraes. His birthday is on 19th of October (he would turn 94 this year), and he passed away 27 years ago on the 9th of July. There is not a "special" date like Jobim (90 years) but you can think about my suggestion. And, of course, next year will be the 50th aniversary of birth of Bossa Nova ...

I'm so glad to be able to hear this Adventurers LP at last. It was one of the few items in the Jobim discography that I hadn't yet found (the only other that comes to mind is "The Little Prince"). The others offered here in the tribute (Orfeu da Conceicao, Manfredo Fest, Salena Jones, etc) are things I have on CD, but it's great to see them receiving more attention. The Carnegie Hall video was good to see again. Many thanks for this tribute to the great Jobim.
I want to also thank Pekis for the information concerning the mixed up tracks. Well done, Pekis, it would have taken me a long time to sort those tracks out. I had this problem with a few other items (Guio de Morais LP and the Sambaloucos LP) about a week ago and reported it to zeca. I hope that this "bug" will not be too difficult to fix.

Great idea!
Some great records like “Tom Canta Vinicius” and “Salena Jones sings Jobim with the Jobim's“. A significant one “Orfeu da Conceicao” from 1956.
Side by side with the schmaltz of Doris Day and the unnecessary tribute from 1997.
I would like to hear more live albums and rarities…
And thanks for the consistently posting superb music!

The singer is Roger "Chappo" Chapman. Lead singer in a band called "Family". Don't know the song's title though.
