Sebastião Tapajós – Violão & Amigos (1979)

.
.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 14 de abril 2008.
Comentários originais incluídos.

Sebastiao Tapajos is a gifted musician. He has a classical background and started with his instrument at the age of nine, encouraged by his own father, being also his first teacher. His classical training and interest in popular music defined his style by a blend of the two schools, providing a transparent connection between the classical and popular. Sebastiao Tapajos has close to 50 albums recorded, in Brazil and outside.

However, most of his discography is still unknown to me, his albums are hard to find, especially those recorded on vinyl and who never had a chance of a reprint on CD. Violao & Amigos is a great find.

Let’s see.

This is Sebastiao Tapajos – Violao & Amigos (1979), for RCA Victor, with the participation of Hermeto Pascoal, Paulo Moura and Mauricio Einhorn. I found this one a week ago, being sold for a ridiculous price. Since then, he has been constantly spinned. I was not able to accomplish an acceptable back cover restoration; being offered in the state it was found. I think this is a rather unknown record and I’m confident that our community will receive it with enthusiasm.

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 06 de outubro 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

This post is to show my commitment to deliver a unforgettable Samba Saturday tomorrow. Friends like moos and many other Samba enthusiasts are getting disappointed with 3 non-Samba weekends at Loronix and there is nothing more associated with Samba than Clara Nunes. Let’s see.

This is Clara Nunes – Guerreira (1978), for Odeon. We have here a late album by Clara Nunes, featuring a mature artist with total control of his interpretation and beautiful voice. The first track gives the album title and worth the entire record. I’m not knowledgeable on Clara Nunes discography, so I’m taking in consideration my listening experience and this one is so far the most pleasant Clara Nunes I have ever heard. Personnel features a constellation of Brazilian musicians with three Maestros in charge of arrangements, as highlighted on track list.

Tracks include:

Quarteto em Cy – Resistindo (1977)

.
.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 18 de setembro 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

Mr. G., my personal Quarteto em Cy consultant, prepared last year a list of albums by the girls that should not be out of Loronix. I know the list by heart and this one is part of Mr. G. essentials. I miss Mr. G. briefing on this album, recorded live in December (1976) at Teatro Fonte da Saudade in Rio de Janeiro and I did not find Resistindo studio release. It is also the first “live” album I heard from Quarteto em Cy and the girls deliver a nice work. Let’s see.

This is Quarteto em Cy – Resistindo (1977), for Philips. I think the strength of Resistindo is the reduced accompaniment supporting Quarteto em Cy; there is no orchestra or brass section, just traditional bass, drums, guitar and piano, in charge of top-notch musicians, including the excellent Zeca on drums. I hope Mr. G., comes later with additional info and his personal highlights to Resistindo.

Tracks includes:

Personnel

Luiz Claudio Ramos
(arrangements, violao, viola, guitar)
Luizao
(bass)
Laercio de Freitas
(piano)
Zeca
(drums)

Track List

01 – Eu Vim da Bahia (Gilberto Gil) Filhos de Gandhi (Gilberto Gil)
02 – Viola Violar (Milton Nascimento / Márcio Borges)
03 – Capricho (Francis Hime / Castro Alves) Memória (Alcyvando Luz / Carlos Drummond de Andrade)
04 – Samambaias (Maurício Tapajós / Hermínio Bello de Carvalho)
05 – Favela (Jorginho / Padeirinho) Arquitetura de Pobre (Edgar Barbosa / Joacyr Santana) O Ronco da Cuíca (João Bosco / Aldir Blanc)
06 – Resistindo (João Bosco / Aldir Blanc)
07 – O Rancho da Goiabada (João Bosco / Aldir Blanc)
08 – Dorme Meu Menino Dorme (Sueli Costa / Cecília Meireles)
09 – Funeral de Um Lavrador (Chico Buarque / João Cabral de Melo Neto)
10 – Mulheres de Atenas (Chico Buarque / Augusto Boal)
11 – Canta Canta Mais (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)

Sivuca & Toots Thielemans – Chiko’s Bar (Rendes-vous in Rio) (1986)

.
.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 1 de setembro 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

I was looking for this album since Loronix beginning and I found it with cvllos on a given vinyl expedition last month. The price was 1 Real (US$ .50) and when you find something you want by this price you just take it with no checking. First thing I did when arrived home was to put it to spin and I got scared when I saw a blue Copacabana label in the center of the vinyl and the word of Bienvenido Granda as main performer.
Parrots have no patience and are really focused. Then I remembered that someone sent it a long time ago as a contribution and I could not make it without the cover scans. That’s why we have here a blend of my cover with the files sent by a friend that did a pretty nice work. Let’s see.

This is Sivuca & Toots Thielemans – Chiko’s Bar (1986), for Sonet. I thought this album was a live recording of a concert at Chiko’s Bar nightclub, but it is an studio session, part of a project called “Rendez vous in Rio”, developed by Sonet producer Rune Ofwerman. Top-notch Brazilian musicians were in this session, as described at personnel listing, just before tracks.

Tracks include:

Personnel

Sivuca
(accordion, vocal)

Toots Thielemans
(harmonica)

Luiz Avelar
(keyboards)

Luizão
(bass)

Ricardo Silveira
(guitar)

Paulinho Braga
(drums)

Ohana, Marcal
(percussion)

Clarence Ofwerman
(synthesizer, arrangements)

Track List

01 – I Just Called To Sy I Love You (Stevie Wonder)
02 – Vai Passar (Francis Hime / Chico Buarque de Hollanda)
03 – Sandra (Luiz Avellar)
04 – Imagine (John Lennon)
05 – Out of Nowhere (Eddie Heyman / Johnny Green)
06 – Pela Luz dos Olhos Teus (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
07 – There’s no Greater Love (Johnny Spencer)
08 – Luz do Sol (Caetano Veloso)

Prezado ZECALOURO, o título deste disco é RENDEZ-VOUS IN RIO, Chiko’s Bar é apenas e tão somente o nome do local onde foi tirada a foto.
