Hello, good evening! I am very happy to update Loronix after four days, which is the largest hiatus since Loronix creation two years ago.

I hope you missed myself and new music such as I did. There were four days, but seems to be four years, in the third night I had a dream I was in the middle of amazing blog posts. Anyway, I will need some adaptation time until getting the old pace, and this is the reason why I’m making this really nice record in the hope you don’t read me, kindly sent and strongly recommended by Jorge Mello. Let’s see.

This is Laurindo Almeida e Ray Turner – Impressoes do Brasil (1957), for Capitol, featuring Laurindo Almeida guitar and Ray Turner piano performing a Brazilian repertoire with selected cuts from Radames Gnattali, Heitor Villa Lobos, Laurindo Almeida and the legendary Garoto. Maestro Radames Gnattali has the whole side A, the only side the unknown Ray Turner plays, while side B features two Laurindo Almeida compositions, one Villa Lobos choro and three Garoto tunes performed by Laurindo, which are the ones that I like most and worth the entire album. Thanks Jorge Mello for this first out of several unknown Laurindo Almeida LPs.

“Impressões do Brasil” traz as primeiras gravações comerciais de duas pérolas da produção violonística de Garoto:Gracioso e Nosso Choro. A música Choro Triste(nº1) também conhecida como Tristezas de um violão, fora gravada 6 anos antes pelo próprio autor.
O Concertino nº2 foi dedicado a Garoto e por ele apresentado no Teatro Municipal RJ acompanhado da Orquestra Sinfonica daquele teatro.Aqui ele é apresentado na sua versão reduzida para piano e violão. Serenade, autoria de Laurindo, é dedicada a Garoto.

Fantástico seu site. Adoro os discos de Laurindo Almeida. Tive, e depois perdi, o LP “The Spanish Guitars of Laurindo Almeida” que ganhou um Grammy em 1961. Foi o meu primeiro contacto com um músico brasileiro. Será que o disco está disponível em algum lugar?

Fantástico, seu blog. Quando adolescente comprei um LP chamado “The Spanish Guitars of Laurindo Almeida”. Adorei. E despois perdí. Soube depois que o disco ganhou um Grammy de 1961. Você sabe, por acaso, onde posso achar um download deste disco? Um abraço.

Just some additional information about the new Loronix Find It! application. I received some emails of friends addressing some issues; It was defined that posts available at Loronix first page are not available at Loronix Find It!, Other common issue are the music videos, they were not loaded at this initial phase and I think it is a good idea to have them all inside. Let’s wait for the new version. Don’t forget to share your feedback on Find It! we need that to improve each aspect of our community.
Back to business, sorry to Music! If you search our database for this record you will find it and we are making a repost, I guarantee that this is a mandatory repost, the first release had some corrupted tracks and this is a very hard to find record. My hope to find it on perfect condition was lost. Caetano send it to Loronixers with a uncommon CD quality. Let’s see what we have.

This is Garoto – Garoto + Sexteto (1966), for Farroupilha, not to be taken as the violonist Garoto (Anibal Augusto Sardinha) from the last post Garoto Revive em Alta Fidelidade Ary Barroso (1957). This is about Altivo Penteado, Brazilian vibraphone and piano player, also known as Garoto. I think this release is self-explanatory and I invite the friends that never had the chance to hear this album and also the ones who made it already to make a try, the music is beautiful and you will not go wrong with it.

Hello and thank you for piles of truely great music! I visit this site every day and I love it. I have only one small critique: The ‘neocounter’ thing may be cool but it slows down this page considerably for me. Maybe take it away in the interest of those with less-than-cable speed internet?

Woow! That’s a great release with all the ingredients that I like. This is Trio Surdina, an instrumental trio that released more than 70 records, all released for the same record label, the legendary Musidisc of Nilo Sergio. Probably, Trio Surdina is Nilo Sergio creation since the name surdina is a joke, meaning that members cannot be revealed.

Trio Surdina members were not revealed due contract obligations with other record labels, great Musidisc idea. Obviously, they were revealed or discovered later and most of Trio Surdina recordings were made by Fafa Lemos (violin), Garoto (guitar) and Chiquinho (accordion). Garoto – Anibal Augusto Sardinha – is a renowned Brazilian guitarist.

This is Trio Surdina – Trio Surdina em Bossa Nova (1963), for Musidisc. The line-up for this Trio Surdina “edition” is Waltel Branco (guitar), Chiquinho do Acordeom (accordion) and Patane (violin). Please give me your feedback about Trio Surdina; I have earlier releases that I can share with friends in a near future.

Garoto (Anibal Sardinha) nasceu em São Paulo, a 28 de junho de 1915, e faleceu no Rio de
Janeiro, a 3 de maio de 1955.
Em 1952, com a formação do trio Surdina, integrado por Garoto ao violão,Chiquinho ao acordeon e Fafá Lemos ao violino, começa a se sedimentar o período embrionário da Bossa Nova. Alguns discos do trio foram lançados,em 1953, pelo selo Musidisc, destacando-se a primeira gravação de Duas Contas, a única música que é cantada. Fafá Lemos é quem canta.
Depois entraria Johnny Alf e a história fica ainda melhor. Quando a bossa nova foi lançada oficialmente, em 1958, a base já estava toda pronta.

Bem lembrado. Muita gente considera essa formação com o Garoto, Fafa e Oswaldinho como o Trio Surdina, que na verdade teve várias formações e parecia ser de propriedade da Musidisc. Só gravaram – e bastante – pela Musidisc.
Existem outros LPs anteriores, talvez seja possível que algum esteja com o violão do Garoto.

No, Trio Surdina was not Nilo Sergio creation, and the name did not come from him but from the radio program on which the trio first played.
