Henry Nirenberg e sua Orquestra - Percussão Espetacular (196?)

.
.
O Jogo dos Pseudônimos
.

Tracks:
01- Percussão Espetacular (Léo Peracchi)
02- Bahia (Na Baixa do Sapateiro) (Ary Barroso)

05- That Old Black Magic (J. Mercer / H. Arlen)

V.A. - No Mundo do Samba (1955)

.
.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 30 de Dezembro 2008.
Comentários originais incluídos.

Hello, good evening! I said yesterday that I would be breaking today the series of posts from the 1970′s decade with something very old. I’m paying my bill with the oldest album I could find here, from 1955.

I love the records made by Musidisc in the 1950′s. The artwork is ahead of that time and was probably made by a single person since the style is unique and very easy to identify.

Who is this artist? This is something we can ask to Jorge Mello, just visiting his new website, featuring his writing and Brazilian music vintage pictures never seen before. You can reach the new Jorge Mello’s website at
http://jorgecarvalhodemello.blogspot.com.
Let’s see.

This is No Mundo do Samba | Volume 1 (1955), for Musidisc, a compilation of Samba tunes performed by artists from Musidisc cast, featuring Leo Peracchi, Trio Surdina, Britinho, Djalma Ferreira, Roberto Luna and an artist that I never heard before, Rud Wharton, which is probably a well-known musician recording by Musidisc under a nickname.

Tracks include:

01 – Gafieira (Djalma Ferreira) Djalma Ferreira
02 – Você É Tormento (Nilo Sergio / Garoto) Leo Peracchi e Orquestra 03 – Vingança (Lupicínio Rodrigues) Trio Surdina
04 – Dora (Dorival Caymmi) Rud Wharton
05 – No Tabuleiro da Baiana (Ary Barroso) Léo Peracchi e Orquestra 06 – Lilian Britinho
07 – Está Desfeito (Manezinho Araújo / David Raw / Aldacir Louro) Roberto Luna
08 – Dia de Sol (João Leal Brito ”Britinho”) – Casinha da Colina (Adpt. João Leal Brito ”Britinho”) Nova Ilusão (José Menezes / Luis Bittencourt) Britinho

Leo Peracchi e Os Violinos Mágicos – Melodia da Broadway (1961)

.

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 16 de outubro 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

Hello, good evening! In the beginning of Loronix, the most difficult task I had was the decision making process to select the last post of the day. Something has changed since then and I don’t know what, but in the last months I have a thought time deciding what should be the opening post. For instance, I started this paragraph with an album on my mind and now I have a totally different choice. This makes me fell crazy! Anyway, now I have a third option that seems to be the right one. Let’s see.

This is Leo Peracchi & Os Violinos Magicos – Melodia da Broadway (1961), for Musidisc, another nice Nilo Sergio – Musidisc owner – creation and the second out of a series of seven albums released by this group of Brazilian musicians assembled as Os Violinos Magicos with the coordination of Maestro Leo Peracchi.

I have a friend that had the chance of watching a recording session of Os Violinos Magicos, he said that Nilo Sergio and Leo Peracchi assembled a big orchestra with musicians taken from Orquestra Sinfonica Brasileira. Os Violinos Magicos were very popular in the 60′s and this is the first album made available at Loronix. Let’s feedback this release using comment section.

Tracks include:

01 – Rio Rita (H. Tierney / J. McCarthy)
02 – Do The New York (J. P. Murray / B. Trivera / B. Oakland)
03 – A Pretty Girl Is Like a Melody (Irving Berlin)
04 – Blue Skies (Irving Berlin)
05 – You (W. Donaldson / H. Adamson)
06 – Make Believe (J. Kern / O. Hammerstein II)
07 – Mandy (Irving Berlin)
08 – Makin’ Whoopee (W. Donaldson / G. Kahn)
09 – Look For The Silver Lining (Irving Berlin / De Sylva)
10 – Love Me Or Leave Me (W. Donaldson / G. Kahn)
11 – My Beautiful Lady (I. Caryll / C. M. S. Mchellan)
12 – Why do I Love You (J. Kern / O. Hammerstein II)

Leo Peracchi e Sua Orquestra - Brazilian Cocktails (1958)

Hello, Good Evening! Today it was just the opposite from the others. I had a lot of time thinking about this first post of the day. I use to go panic with the last one and I hope you appreciate this first one, a nice orchestra album recorded by a renowned Brazilian maestro for Capitol in the US. There are some other amazing facts about Antonio Carlos Jobim at this album, let's see.

This is Leo Peracchi e Sua Orquestra - Brazilian Cocktails (1958), for Capitol. Thanks Caetano Rodrigues for making available the cover artwork this time. I'm now skilled on my new entry-level A4 scanner and cover scan quality has been gradually improved a lot. Brazilian Cocktails was released as part of a given Capitol International series and I'm not sure if it was issued in Brazil. This album has three Antonio Carlos Jobim compositions that you will not find on any other Jobim career album, Moonlight Daiquiri, Latin Manhattan and Coffee Delight, this last one with Dolores Duran.

There is another Brazilian album from this series that I would like very much to have to chance to hear featuring Carolina Cardoso de Menezes and Orlando Silveira - Honeymoon in Rio. The cover artwork is beautiful as this one and you can click on this thumbnail to see it bigger.

Tracks include:

01 - Batida de Maracujá (Luciano Perrone)
02 - Carnaval Cocktails (Bobby Black)
03 - "Souse" American (Lindolfo Gaya)
04 - Macumba Cocktail (João da Bahiana)
05 - Moonlight Daiquiri (Tom Jobim)
06 - Old Fashioned Bahia (Luis Bonfá)
07 - Tico-tico Bombie (Aloysio de Oliveira)
08 - Latin Manhatan (Tom Jobim)
09 - Brasilian Hangover (Bobby Black)
10 - Coffee Delight (Tom Jobim / Dolores Duran)
11 - Dry Copacabana (Vadico)
12 - Rio Martini (Aloysio de Oliveira)

Wow, this is an amazing record, one of those we try to find everytime we go to a used records shop (a "sebo", in a good portuguese)!
I think this is the north-american version of a very rare Odeon release (MOFB 3042, 1958).
The Jobim's tunes are also available on the compilation "Tom Jobim - Raros compassos" (Revivendo RVCD-142/143/144), but in a very poor sound. This one is in a really better quality.
Thank you for giving us this pearl!

edson mendes on Wednesday, 09 May, 2007Hi Zeca, I am here again.
Listening to the disc we note that something is wrong. Not with the great music that it contains, but with the tunes that aren't in the same order that they are listed in the backover, so they seem to be mismatched...
For example, track number 7 "Tico-tico Zombie" is in true "Moonlight daiquiri", which after receiving Chico Buarque's lyrics was renamed to "Imagina".
But the most impressing thing is that track number 6 "Old fashioned Bahia" (which is track number 5 of side two in the original backcover) is clearly the music "Estrada do sol (A. C. Jobim - Dolores Duran), that is not listed in the backcover!

Eric on Wednesday, 18 June, 2008Hi - Are you still looking for Honeymoon in Rio? I have located a copy and when it arrives, I will see what kind of shape it is in.

zecalouro on Wednesday, 18 June, 2008Eric,
