Neyde Fraga - Mais Balanço com Neyde Fraga (1965)

This is the second album at Loronix by this Brazilian female singer that I like very much. The first one was recorded with Walter Wanderley, her husband at that time. Neyde Fraga has one of the most swinging voices I have ever heard on a female singer and this album is so good as the other one with Walter Wanderley. Let's see how Loronixers feedback this one.

Martoni:

Walter Wanderley não foi casado com Neide Fraga, a esposa de Walter Wanderley era Isaura Garcia.
Leia aqui como foi o encontro de Isaurinha e Walter Wanderley.

This is Neyde Fraga - Mais Balanço com Neyde Fraga (1965), for Continental, an contagious samba album with a swingy big band orchestra and arrangements shared by Erlon Chaves and Francisco de Moraes. Actually each one is in charge of six arrangements as indicated at track list. Neyde Fraga recorded several 78 rpm, some singles, EPs, three LPs and for reasons that I don't know she stop her career after releasing this album. The third Neyde Fraga LP is a 10-inch format, released in 1957 for Odeon. I'm tracking down this one and any hint is really appreciated.

Tracks include:

01 - Samba Jazz (Ely Silva / Meneguim Júnior) Erlon Chaves
02 - Gente (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle) Francisco de Moraes
03 - Dor de Separar (Hilton Accioli / Roberto Luna) Erlon Chaves
04 - Miss Biquini (Sylvio Mazzuca / Zuleika Amaral) Francisco de Moraes
05 - Só Deus e Eu (Jorge Costa / Sebastião da Silveira) Erlon Chaves
06 - Mar Amar (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
Francisco de Moraes
07 - Balançafro (Luis Bandeira)
Francisco de Moraes
08 - Posto Seis (Zé Keti / José Ari)
Erlon Chaves
09 - Arrastão (Edu Lobo / Vinicius de Moraes)
Francisco de Moraes
10 - Onda Quebrando (Zil Rosendo)
Erlon Chaves
11 - Barquinho Diferente (Sergio Augusto)
Francisco de Moraes
12 - Vá Ser Feliz (Geraldo Vandré)
Erlon Chaves

I'm not aware that this singer was ever married to Walter Wanderley, I don't believe this to be correct. The only singer I know he was married to was Isaura Garcia.

Varios Artistas – Festival da Bossa Nova (1963)

Bonus: Arquivo em FLAC.

I have been monitor price and availability of this album since the very first beginning of Loronix. Perhaps this amazing cover artwork has called my attention to this record. I never had the chance to find it by a price I could afford at on-line auction sites and never had the chance to take it on my hands to understand what kind of Bossa Nova Festival was that.

Today I got it on my favorite old vinyl store in Copacabana for a unbelievable price.
Let’s see.

This is Festival da Bossa Nova (1963), for Odeon, unfortunately, not the live recording of a Bossa Nova Festival, but a compilation of Bossa Nova tunes performed by selected artists from Odeon cast, as follows: Walter Wanderley, Joao Gilberto, Isaura Garcia, Pery Ribeiro and Luiz Bonfa. The album was new as it would be in 1963 and played so nicely that I did not need to use any noise reduction application. This is the perfect record for those who are new to Bossa Nova and for those who are looking for a session performed by great artists based on a nice repertoire.

Tracks include:

The Performers

Isaura Garcia
Joao Gilberto
Luiz Bonfa
Pery Ribeiro
Walter Wanderley

Track List

01 – Samba de Uma Nota Só – João Gilberto
02 – Só Em Teus Braços – Isaura Garcia
03 – Menina Flor – Luis Bonfá
04 – O Barquinho – Pery Ribeiro
05 – Insensatez – João Gilberto
06 – Você e Eu – Walter Wanderley
07 – Desafinado – João Gilberto
08 – Fio de Canção – Luis Bonfá
09 – Corcovado – Isaura Garcia
10 – Chega de Saudade – João Gilberto
11 – Meditação – Walter Wanderley
12 – Melancolia – Luis Bonfá

This record is a compilation from well known Odeon LP`s from the featured artists, but “So em teus bracos” is not on a regular Isaura Garcia LP. This comes from an interesting album called: Hebe Camargo “Hebe comanda o espetaculo”1961 (Odeon MOFB-3224). This is the album with the famous living room front cover. On the whole album Walter Wanderley arranged and played tunes for different singers. It would be nice to see this album too one day at Loronix.

Billy Blanco – Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira Nr. 32 (1971)

I’m not sure that everybody will remember when I introduced Loronixers to a series of albums dedicated to Brazilian artists with Chico Buarque edition on Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira – Serie Grandes Compositores. You can check Chico Buarque albumhere.

Now it is time to get along with another series, which is my favorite, Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira, easily identified by this back cover. This series was released from 1970 to 1971 and it is very easy to find on old vinyl shops in Rio. Each edition comes with biography, beautiful color photos and something that is really great an LP in the 10-inch format featuring a compilation.

This is Billy Blanco – Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira Nr. 32 (1971), for Abril Cultural, featuring eight Billy Blanco compositions, performed by Lucio Alves, Isaura Garcia, Jorge Veiga, Doris Monteiro, Maysa, Jamelao, Wilson Simonal and Billy Banco. I think Billy Blanco choice is correct; he is a very important Bossa Nova artist with less than a few albums available at Loronix.

Tracks include:

The Performers

Lucio Alves
Isaura Garcia
Jorge Veiga
Doris Monteiro
Maysa
Jamelao
Billy Blanco
Wilson Simonal

Track List

01 – Viva Meu Samba – Lucio Alves
02 – A Banca do Destino – Isaura Garcia
03 – Estatutos da Gafieira – Jorge Veiga
04 – Mocinho Bonito – Doris Monteiro
05 – Sinfonia do Rio de Janeiro – Jamelao & Maysa
06 – Camelo – Billy Blanco
07 – Piston de Gafieira – Jorge Veiga
08 – Rio meu Amor – Wilson Simonal

Martoni: Como podem verificar no back cover o nome certo da música N° 2 é "A Banca do Distinto"

Zeca this is great this album where other artists sing songs of Billy Blanco, one of the greatest Bossa Nova composers. I really thank you very much.
Best wishes

É incrivel como Billy Blanco foi uma espécie de cronista musical carioca nos anos 50.
