Ed Lincoln, Orlann Divo e Nilo Sergio – Ed Lincoln / Orlann Divo / Nilo Sergio (1966)

.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 01 de setembro 2006.
Comentários originais incluídos.

This is a hard to find LP released by Musidisc in 1966 featuring Ed Lincoln, Orlann Divo and Nilo Sergio. Nilo Sergio – even appearing at the third name – is Musidisc owner.

In spite of it, Nilo Sergio had to work hard with four compositions. Orlandivo and Ed Lincoln also give four compositions each.

Tracks include:

01 – Quero Amar (Ed Lincoln)
02 – Zezinho (Orlann Divo)
03 – Romantic Partners (Nilo Sergio)
04 – Pra Que? (Ed Lincoln)
05 – Brincando de Samba (Orlann Divo)
06 – Espiral (Nilo Sergio)
07 – Tristeza (Ed Lincoln)
08 – Saudade, Solidao pra Mim (Orlann Divo)
09 – Cancao dos Vagabundos (Nilo Sergio)
10 – A Rosa (Ed Lincoln)
11 – Afim de Voce (Orlann Divo)
12 – Marias de Portugal (Nilo Sergio)

Les 4 Cadillacs – Les 4 Cadillacs (1964)

Hello, good evening! I was not thinking about posting this album by Les 4 Cadillacs today, but I making it for gratitude, Les 4 Cadillacs worked nicely with zecalouro today. zecalouro (the parrot) was really annoying this afternoon, saying bad things, such as: mengo and the name of someone that I don’t like. He knows this thing really drives me crazy and I could not concentrate on the work I was doing.
So, I decided to take it for a spin with him. I put zecalouro just beside the turntable (he likes to see the vinyl spinning) and I laid down on the couch to wait for the results.

The results were fantastic, zecalouro started saying good things such like: I love you daddy, scratch my head, good night, you are my friend, and even tried to sing the melodies he creates on top of some songs. I felt sleeping close to the end of both sides and he called myself yelling “it is over” when the record stops spinning.
I was mad with zecalouro and Les 4 Cadillacs saved my day. By the way, why I’m telling these things? I’m getting nuts, definitively. Anyway, this album is dedicated to zecalouro, my demanding and smart green friend.

This is Les 4 Cadillacs – Les 4 Cadillacs (1964), for Musidisc, the last album recorded by this anthological Musidisc creation lead by Ed Lincoln. I think Loronix has now the whole Les 4 Cadillacs discography, five albums recorded from 1961 until this last 1964 release. Personnel listing is made available according with Vinylmaniac information.

Tracks include:

Ed Lincoln

Hello, good evening! Let’s start today with a group that started as “trial” and now is a real mania among Loronixers, I’m talking about Les 4 Cadillacs, another nice creation of Musidisc owner Nilo Sergio. We have already three Les 4 Cadillacs albums available at Loronix, and this one is perhaps the best one, being also the most popular, perhaps by the cover showing these four Cadillacs. Let’s see.

This is Les 4 Cadillacs – Les 4 Cadillacs (1963), for Musidisc. We have a major change on our Les 4 Cadillacs sequel, in addition to the band leader, the legendary Ed Lincoln at the piano, vinylmaniac provided a couple of days ago the identification of the three other Cadillacs, thanks vinylmaniac! They are: Durval Ferreira (guitar), Luis Marinho (bass) and Wilson das Neves (drums). This is an awesome revelation.

Tracks include
:

Personnel

Ed Lincoln

(bass)

Wilson das Neves
(drums)

Track List

01 – Buenas Noches Mi Amor (H. Giraud / M. Fontenoy)

Zeca, I am extremely happy that you have posted another Les 4 Cadillacs LP. I love this one a lot. I should add I think there must be another Les 4 Cadillacs Lp release showing 4 Cadillacs printed on its cover. Am I wrong assuming this? Thank you for being so kind as to publish albums requested by all of us, Brazilian Music Lovers.

Here we go on what is gradually becoming a mania, Les 4 Cadillacs. Several friends are requesting this third release, made today as an additional post to the regular three daily releases. Let’s see.

This is Les 4 Cadillacs – Doucement, Cherie (1962), for Musidisc. Remembering that Les 4 Cadillacs is Ed Lincoln at piano backed by not credited musicians on bass, drums and guitar. Once again, Les 4 Cadillacs delivers anxiolytic renditions of American and French songs, starting and ending with Sweet Melody (Jean Paques).

I’m showing a reissue made in 1971 by Replay label, instead of the original Musidisc. The cover is much better and the vinyl perfect.

Tracks include:

01 – Sweet Melody (J. Paques)
02 – Nessuno Al Mondo (Rastelli / Gioia)
03 – Georgia On My Mind (H. Carmichael)
04 – Pepe (H. Wittstatt)
05 – Non Dimenticar (P. G. Redi / M. Galdieri)
06 – Maria (L. Bernstein / S. Sondheim)
07 – Aimer Comme Je T’aime (H. Giraud)
08 – I Can’t Stop Loving You (D. Gibson)
09 – When You Wish Upon a Star (N. Whashington / L. Harline)
10 – Quando (Tenco)
11 – A Foogy Day (George Gershwin / Ira Gershwin)
12 – C’este Magnifique (Cole Porter)
13 – Non Partire (Bracchi / D’Anzi)
14 – Sweet Melody (J. Paques)`

Les 4 Cadillacs – Doucement Novamente (1961)

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 16 de setembro 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

I will never do this thing again, I said I had three albums from this Ed Lincoln’s group Les 4 Cadillacs and would make only one at Loronix. Since then, I received many emails from friends asking for the others. Ed Lincoln fans are really focused, even when Ed Lincoln is not performing with organ using his own artistic name. Let’s see how this one performs.

This is Les 4 Cadillacs – Doucement Novamente (1961), for Musidisc, following the same formula we knew at Doucement, Mon Amour, Ed Lincoln at the piano with not credited musicians playing an easy-listening repertoire of international music. There is an important difference; each side approaches a different continent. Side A brings rendition to Americas with songs from Brazil, United States, Cuba, Mexico, Paraguay and Argentina, while Side B brings Europe, featuring songs from Germany, Italy, URSS, France, Portugal and Spain. Liner notes written by Sebastiao Fonseca also refers the name of Jean Pacques. I could not understand why and I hope someone explains it.

Tracks include:

01 – Sweet Melody (Jean Paques) – I Could Have Danced All Night (A. J. Lerner / F. Loewe)
02 – Canção de Amor Cubano (H. Stothart / J. McHugh / D. Fields) – Cubanacan (M. Simons)
03 – Chove Lá Fora (Tito Madi) – Se Todos Fossem Iguais a Você (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
04 – Recuerdos de Ypacarai (Demetrio Ortiz / Z. Mirkin) – Índia (José Asunción Flores / Manuel Ortiz Guerrero)
05 – Besame Mucho (Consuelo Velasquez) – Amoe Amor Amor (Gabriel Ruiz / R. L. Mendes)
06 – El Dia En Qu Me Quieras (Carlos Gardel / Alfredo Le Pera) – Jealousie (J. Gade)
07 – Moritat (Meck The Knife) (Kurt Weill / Bertold Brecht) – Liechtensteiner Polka (E. Kotscher / R. Lind)
08 – Tua (G. Malgoni / B. Pallesi) – Mama (Collazo)
09 – Olhos Negros (Tradicional) – Noites de Moscou (I. Dunayevsky)
10 – C’est Si Bom (H. Betti / A. Hornez) – Mon Oncle (F. Barcellini / H. Contet / J. C. Carrieri)
11 – Canção do Mar (Ferrer Trindade / F. de Brito) – Sempre Que Lisboa Canta (Carlos Rocha / Aníbal Nazareth)
12 – La Violetera (J. Padilla / E. Montesinos) – Madrid (Agustin Lara) – Sweet Melody (Jean Paques)

I’m very happy to own an original first issue copy of this album, never released at Loronix. Actually, it has been a while since we made a record by Ed Lincoln. This album landmark the first LP released by Savoya label, owned by Ed Lincoln. I made some searches to find additional Savoya albums with no success. It seems this lable had a short life, but this album is really great. Let’s see.

This is Ed Lincoln – Ed Lincoln (1968), for Savoya, also known as “De Savoya album”. The back cover brings a statement from Savoya Discos that explains very well this album, they say the record has 12 songs, each one very different from each other, giving the perception of hearing 12 different albums in only one record. I agree, Ed Lincoln and the top-notch musicians in the set delivering songs on different styles with arrangements by Ed Lincoln. The highlight goes to Zum Zum, Waldemar, Sack O’Woe and O Choro do Bebe.

Tracks include:

Personnel

Ed Lincoln
(organ, arrangements)

Durval Ferreira
(guitar)

Luiz Marinho
(bass)

Orlann Divo
(vocals)

Garin
(percussion)

Alex Papa
(drums)

Tony Tornado
(percussion)

Celinho
(piston)

Claudinho
(piston)
Track List

01 – Zum Zum Zum (Silva / Adamastor)
02 – Waldemar (Devel / Orlann Divo)
03 – O Choro do Bebê (De Savoya)
04 – Catedral (Celinho)
05 – Já Estou Aqui (Ed Lincoln / Celinho)
06 – Cumba-iê (Ed Lincoln / Celinho)
07 – Se Correr o Bicho Pega (Devel / Orlann Divo)
08 – Sack O’woe (Saca-uô) (C. Adderley)
09 – É Demais (Ed Lincoln)
10 – Dá-me Teu Coração (Durval Ferreira / Orlann Divo)
11 – Balá-balá-cuê (Devel / Orlann Divo)
12 – Bon Jour (Durval Ferreira / Flávia)

swingbossa said…Great album! I really like Ed’s funky take on Sack o’Woe, which is one of my favorite 60s jazz blues tunes. It’s great how Ed (and Walter Wanderly, and Ze Maria etc) all have different organ sounds, and none of them sound like Jimmy Smith. I love Jimmy Smith, but not everyone has to sound like him.

This is a masterpiece in my opinion. Probably the best Ed Lincoln album, that Loronix mustn’t miss. Sometimes I put the music on some little parties that my friends do and I always use some tracks of this. People love it. Its very energic and groovy. Unmissable!

Ed Lincoln - Seu Piano e Seu Orgao Espetacular (1963)

It is always nice to visit an old vinyl shop with a friend to hunt records together, but some embarrassing situations always occur. It does not happen with Caetano, that has everything and the last time that happened was with Moos, from the Netherlands. The situation happens when your friend find first the record that you are looking for. It is a weird feeling, because you stay happy and a little bit sad at the same time. Not a problem with the great Moos that sent the ones that he found first just when he arrived home.

This is Ed Lincoln - Seu Piano e Seu Orgao Espetacular (1963), for Musidisc, really above the average Ed Lincoln album, lyrics in most of the tracks, Orlandivo and Pedrinho Rodrigues as special guests and that infectious Hammond B3 organ groove provided by Ed Lincoln. I decided to keep Moos ripping untouched, so you will have eventual clicks and clacks at the end and beginning of each track.

Tracks include:

01 - Miss Balanço (Heitor Menezes)
02 - Só Danço Samba (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
03 - Vou Rir de Você (Heitor Menezes)
04 - Influência do Jazz (Carlos Lyra)
05 - Um Samba Gostoso (Ed Lincoln)
06 - Vamos Balançar (Carlos Imperial)
07 - O Samba É Bom Assim (Pra Mim) (Hélio Nascimento / Norival Reis)
08 - Pra Que (Silvio César)
09 - É Um Estouro (Jaime Silva / Neusa Teixeira / Luis Pereira)
10 - Balansamba Nº 1 (Luis Bandeira)
11 - Tristeza (Ed Lincoln / Luis Bandeira)
12 - Olhou Pra Mim (Ed Lincoln / Silvio César)

Oi Zeca,
Aproveitando a postagem do disco de 63 de Ed Lincoln, lembro que no próximo 31 de maio, ele completa 75 anos. Como sugestão, que tal posts especiais em homenagem a Lincoln em seu aniversário?

Hello, Good Night! This is a perfect example of how the name "Bossa Nova" was misused by record labels along time. I bought this record today for a bargain and I was very happy to have it. Conjunto Balambossa released another LP by the label Coledisc called Poema do Adeus that is a classic instrumental music album. However, this is not Bossa Nova or a Bossa Jazz LP, but a slight opportunistic use of the term Balambossa on a record full of instrumental boleros with Hammond organ.

Anyway, according with sombras.com.br, the organist is Ed Lincoln and I decided to share just to please Ed Lincoln fans. This is Conjunto Balambossa - Nao Quero Ver Voce Triste (1974), for Coledisc, featuring the organist Ed Lincoln. There are nice moments provided by Ed Lincoln and some shady arrangements that were probably inspired by progressive rock music from the 70’s.

Tracks include:

01 - Drink na Praia
02 - People
03 - And I Love You
04 - Nature Boy
05 - Fio de Esperanca
06 - Preciso Aprender a Ser So
07 - Nao Quero Ver Voce Triste
08 - The Shadow of Your Smile
09 - Adventures in Paradise
10 - Naked City
11 - Limelight
12 - Three Stars will Shine Tonight
