A Noite do Amor, do Sorriso e da Flor – 1o Festival de Bossa Nova | Faculdade de Arquitetura (1960)

.
.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 08 de outubro 2007.
25! Comentários originais incluídos.

Bonus: Comentários do Quadradinho (Incluido nos 3 primeiros comentários)

This cover and post title is self-explanatory and I think nobody will ready these lines. It is not necessary to clean your glasses or schedule a visit to your doctor, what you see is exactly what you get, and I will be very straightforward to do not waste your time.

This is A Noite do Amor, do Sorriso e da Flor – Faculdade de Arquitetura (1960), the anthological event produced by Ronaldo Boscoli, considered the first Bossa Nova Festival, featuring renowned Brazilian artists on a very early stage of their career supported by Roberto Menescal (guitar), Luiz Carlos Vinhas (piano), Luiz Paulo (bass), Helcio Milito (drums) and Bebeto (sax).

The track list has some failures and I hope our community helps to realize the exact figures in terms of songs names and performers. The sound quality is not perfect, but if you take in from an historical perspective, every second of this event worth the hearing. I would like to thanks all the friends involved on this post, a very important accomplishment to our community.

Tracks include:

Luiz Carlos Vinhas

Wow, this seems to be sensational.
Another unknown recording of one of the major events in the history of Bossa Nova, only to compare with the Bon Gourmet recordings or the Carnegie Hall concert of 1962. I remember, that in Ruy Castro`s Bossa Nova book were many informations about this concert and the names of the singers and musicians who partcipated in this event. Thank you very much to Zeca and all who are involved to bring to us this wonderful recordings.

Amazing… I never expected to have a chance to hear a recording of this event. I would echo what Frank has said. Thank you to all who have brought this to us. Can more be told about how this survived, and how it has come to be available here?

I’m sorry to disappoint you, friends, but I have quite the same questions regarding this concert. I heard they were not expecting so many people attending and got surprised with the big audience. Additionally the concert was held on the facilities of a university, not inside a “controlled” place such like the Au Bon Gourmet, for instance.
My question is, how this concert was recorded on such good quality with the resources available in 1960?
I spoke with people that were there – privileged people by the way – and they could not answer to this issue.
Anyway, it is history and for those who understand Portuguese, the experience is much more interesting because it is possible to hear some conversations in the background that are really authentically to essays such like these ones.
Thanks for the feedback. zeca

Zeca,
posts like this consolidate Loronix as a solid terrain for researchers of Bossa Nova and Brazilian Music wich legitimates your work above anything. But the magnifcence of this is to gave History an audience. Great Job. Thanks.

This terrific post reminds me that I took photos of drummer Helcio Milito just a few weeks ago. The results are here

One of the shots includes a Loronix fan, pianist Jovino Santos Neto.
He is doing well and living in Monterey, California. A very nice guy, too!

A Sylvia Telles participou desse show?

Algumas correções: Quem canta as três primeiras canções é a Claudette Soares.

Track 20 is “Lamento no Morro” by Tom Jobim. I doubt that is Astrud Gilberto, as it doesn’t sound like her, but I don’t know who it is.
Thanks for this GREAT post!

Ruy Castro confirms, that “Lamento no morro” is sung by Astrud Gilberto. It is also right, that Sylvia Telles appears in Carlos Lyra`s show on the same day. I think Claudette Soares sings “Sambop”, because she also sings it on the “Nova Geracao em Ritmo de Samba” album. Also in the show were Rosana Toledo, Nara Leao, Pedrinho Mattar, Tom Jobim and trumpet player Bill Horne.
All were accompanied by Menescal`s group “with Eumir Deodato on piano”(Ruy Castro), but Vinhas plays also piano in the show.

I think there were two shows on two different nights: May, 20th and May, 21st, because the poster facsimile shows the date of 20th. Probably some artists sung only in one of these shows, that’s why Rosana Toledo, Nara Leão and others don’t appear in the recording. According to Ruy Castro, probably the author of the recording was Chico Pereira (the official photographer of Odeon Label), which had as a hobby to record some live or not official Bossa Nova presentations. Maybe there are other hidden jewels like this one…

I’m a little confused by all the posts on “A Noite do amor”. Do we know as much as we need to update the track listing?

After hearing it carefully, I agree that the singer of the first tunes is Claudette Soares not Sylvia Telles. The information about Caetano Zama is also right, he is also on the Carnegie Hall 1962 record and this is the same voice. The last title is not “Insensatze” but “Meditacao”.

Sergio Ricardo & Lindolfo Gaya – Esse Mundo e Meu (OST) (1965)

.
.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 20 de dezembro 2006.
Comentários originais incluídos.

This is a Caetano Rodrigues contribution that was waiting for a chance for a several weeks. Blame it on zecalouro for it. He kept on secret a wonderful and very hard to find LP, anyway, Christmas is coming and maybe he wants to release the some nice surprises to celebrate.

Meet, Sergio Ricardo & Lindolfo Gaya – Esse Mundo E Meu (OST) (1965), for Forma as FM-5. The collectors use to know by heart the identification code from the record labels that they like most, such as: ME-XX for Elenco, MOFB XXXX for Odeon, etc.

I never had a request for this FM-5 OST, which is really surprising.
Esse Mundo E Meu is black and white movie picture directed by Sergio Ricardo that follows two men living in a Rio de Janeiro slum: a black shoe-shiner and a white mill worker. I never saw this movie and perhaps it is not available on DVD or VHS, but the soundtrack is nice with Sergio Ricardo compositions and Lindolfo Gaya arrangements.

.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 02 de setembro 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

I’m reposting this album in attention to new Loronixers that should take it as an introductory Bossa Nova record, showing in a glance important Bossa Nova tunes performed by renowned artists. Additionally, cover artwork is upgraded — front and back covers were missing when first issued at Loronix — and the music, with major improvements on quality, including the FLAC files alternative.

Sergio Ricardo - Dancante Nr. 1 (1959)

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 23 de fevereiro 2007.

Comentários originais incluídos.

I don't know what to say at this post. In the other hand, I know what I feel when I heard this music, perplexity. I'm not an authority on Sergio Ricardo music and it is natural that my expectation is at least to hear songs with lyrics sung by Sergio Ricardo. Big mistake, this is the first Sergio Ricardo LP and it is (as far as I know) completely different from everything he made on his later works.

This is Sergio Ricardo - Dancante Nr. 1 (1959), for Todamerica, a release provided by the now legendary Mr. E. As I said, this is an inquisitive instrumental album from Sergio Ricardo, ahead of its time, featuring the piano of Sergio Ricardo backed by top-notch musicians. I'm wondering if there is a lost tape of a given Dancante Nr. 2 available. Anyway, I will let you hear and come back for additional considerations in comment section. Thanks Mr. E. for this one.

Tracks include:

Sergio Ricardo
(piano)

Ramon Perez

Hélcio Milito

Helinho

Mto obrigado!!!! =] Gabriel Gonzaga

Gabriel Gonzaga,

This single is from the Festival Nacional de Musica Popular Brasileira (1968) with Sergio Ricardo performing Girassol (Sergio Ricardo) and Luandaluar (Sergio Ricardo). No Rapidshare this time.
