.
.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 25 de novembro 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

Hello, good evening! I’m surprised with Veu de Noiva Brazilian soap opera OST released two days ago. Until now, it is the most downloaded of the weekend, leaving classic albums by renowned artists behind. This is the reason for showing Loronixers another OST, produced by the same people in charge of Veu de Noiva, released in 1970 and kindly provided with exceptional quality by the already legendary Dona Iara. Let’s see.

This is Verao Vermelho (1970), for Philips, the original sound track of TV Globo Verao Vermelho soap opera. Directed by Nelson Motta and featuring almost the same performers of Veu de Noiva, such as Luiz Eca, Regininha, Roberto Menescal, Wilson das Neves and Elis Regina.

Tracks include:

The Performers

Elis Regina
Nonato Buzar
Regininha
Wilson das Neves
Luiz Eca
Erlon Chaves
Roberto Menescal

III Loronix Singles & EPs Festival – Os Cariocas & Elis Regina

.
.

Yesterday’s III Loronix Singles Festival had no feedback, perhaps I need to fine tune my picks and that’s what I’m trying to accomplish with the III Loronix EP Festival, featuring two artists with great popularity among Loronixers. Let’s see.

This is Os Cariocas – Os Cariocas de Quatrocentas Bossas (1965), for Philips, the “reduced” version of the homonymous LP, one of the Os Cariocas albums that I like most and one of the nicest covers so far at Loronix.

Tracks include:

01 – Preciso Aprender a Ser So (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
02 – Sabe Voce (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
03 – Gente (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
04 – Carro de Boi (Mauricio Tapajos / Antonio Carlos de Brito)

Now we are going with four Elis Regina records in a row, one EP and three singles, as follows:

This is Elis Regina – Elis Regina (1971), EP, for Philips, with arrangements by Cesar Carmargo Mariano with tracks taken from ELIS (1971).

Tracks include:

01 – Osanah
02 – Nada Sera Como Antes
03 – A Filha de Chico Bento
04 – Casa no Campo

This is Elis Regina – Elis Regina (1965), single, for Philips, featuring Arrastao, winner of I Festival de Musica Popular Brasileira.

Tracks include:

01 – Arrastao
02 – Aleluia

This is Elis Regina – Elis Regina (1966), single, for Philips, featuring Saveiros and Canto Triste from I Festival Internacional da Cancao Popular.

Tracks include:

01 – Saveiros
02 – Canto Triste

This is the great close with the one that I like most, a single, recorded live at Teatro Record, Sao Paulo.

Tracks include:

01 – Canto de Ossanha
02 – Rosa Morena

Varios Artistas – Bossa Nova 25 Anos (1983)

.
.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 02 de setembro 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

I’m reposting this album in attention to new Loronixers that should take it as an introductory Bossa Nova record, showing in a glance important Bossa Nova tunes performed by renowned artists. Additionally, cover artwork is upgraded — front and back covers were missing when first issued at Loronix — and the music, with major improvements on quality, including the FLAC files alternative.

Bossa Nova 25 Anos was released as a marketing initiative of Coca Cola Beverage Company in Brazil, never made available commercially.

This is Bossa Nova 25 Anos (1983), featuring Elizeth Cardoso, Joao Gilberto, Sylvia Telles, Sergio Ricardo, Agostinho dos Santos, Carlos Lyra, Baden Powell, Tamba Trio, Astrud Gilberto, Stan Getz, Elis Regina, Johnny Alf and Tom Jobim. Self-explanatory album and one of the best Bossa Nova compilations I had the chance to know.

Tracks include:

The Performers:

Elizeth Cardoso
Joao Gilberto
Sylvia Telles
Sergio Ricardo
Agostinho dos Santos
Carlos Lyra
Baden Powell
Tamba Trio
Astrud Gilberto
Stan Getz
Elis Regina
Johnny Alf
Antonio Carlos Jobim

Track List

01 – Chega de Saudade – Elizeth Cardoso
02 – Desafinado – João Gilberto
03 – Samba de Uma Nota Só – Silvinha Telles
04 – Zelão – Sergio Ricardo
05 – O Barquinho – João Gilberto
06 – Manhã de Carnaval – Agostinho dos Santos
07 – Influência do Jazz – Carlos Lyra
08 – Berimbau – Baden Powell
09 – Sonho de Maria – Tamba Trio
10 – Garota de Ipanema – Astrud Gilberto / Stan Getz / João Gilberto
11 – Arrastão – Elis Regina
12 – Eu e a Brisa – Johnny Alf

Varios Artistas – I Festival Universitario de Musica Popular Brasileira (1968)

.
.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 31 de julho 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

Yesterday, our Loronix friend Irinea Maria wrote me with a special mission, to find one of those Festivais da Cancao albums with a composition by her own performed by Claudette Soares. I thought it was one of those missions impossible to accomplish, since I have less than a few albums on the style, but Irinea was lucky, among these few I had the one she was looking for. Irinea got the second prize at this Festival while the song Helena, Helena, Helena, performed by Lucio Alves was the winner.

This is I Festival Universitario de Musica Popular Brasileira (1968), for Philips, featuring Claudette Soares, Jair Rodrigues, Quarteto Novo, Elis Regina, Lucio Alves and others. The last release in the style had a really bad ripping, but this one was made by Loronix engineers, under zecalouro supervision, no surprises this time.

Tracks include:

The Performers:

Lucio Alves
Claudette Soares
Jair Rodrigues with Quarteto Novo
Magda
Homero
Jorge Nery
Cyro Monteiro
Elis Regina
Paulo Marques
Sonia Lemos
Ruy Felip

Track List

01 – Helena Helena Helena (Alberto Land) – Lúcio Alves
02 – Frevo da Saudade (Fred Falcão / Paulinho Tapajós) – Claudette Soares
03 – O Violeiro (Homero Moutinho Filho) – Jair Rodrigues / Quarteto Novo
04 – Lembrança (Célia Vaz) – Magda
05 – Síncope Universal (Homero Moutinho Filho) – Homero
06 – Pobreza Por Pobreza (Gonzaguinha) – Jorge Nery
07 – Vida Breve (Neville / Irinéa Ribeiro) – Claudette Soares
08 – Até o Amanhecer (Dema / Ivan Lins) – Cyro Monteiro
09 – Um Novo Rumo (Arthur Verocai / Geraldo Flach) – Elis Regina
10 – Meu Tamborim (César Costa Filho / Ronaldo Monteiro de Souza) – Paulo Marques
11 – Arruaça (Ruy Maurity / José Jorge) – Sônia Lemos
12 – Morena Porta-bandeira (Sergio Cruz) – Ruy Felipe

Parabéns a vocês. Onde posso baixar essa música/

Elis Regina - "Madalena" (1970)

..
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 10 de abril 2007.

Comentários originais incluídos.

Last year, I started a series of releases summarizing several Singles, EPs on a single posts. I would never make such think today, Singles and EPs were an essential part of an artist discography until the mid 80's and we need to approach them such like we do with regular LPs. Once in a while I will make some posts on this size, making really relevant peaks.

Such like this one. I had this EP. I cannot remember how it was gone. However I could get if back on good conditions and it is so good that I want to show it for Loronix friends.

This is Elis Regina - "Madalena" (1970), for Philips as 441.473. This EP includes two tracks that were only released on LP a year later at Ela, Madalena and Falei e disse. Unfortunately, I don't have Ela, so I cannot guarantee if both tunes were released such like presented here or recorded for Ela. This is "Elis Regina as a Glance", all tracks are wonderful. Arrangements by Maestro Erlon Chaves e Chico de Moraes. Tracks include:

01 - Madalena (Ivan Lins / Ronaldo Monteiro de Souza)
02 - Fechado Pra Balanço (Gilberto Gil)
03 - Falei E Disse (Baden Powell / Paulo César Pinheiro)
04 - Vou Deitar E Rolar (Paulo César Pinheiro / Baden Powell)

Phil Woods - Astor & Elis (1996)

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 16 de março 2007.

Comentários originais incluídos.

Hello, Good night! May 12th is approaching fast. Nothing special on this day. I have friends that are maniac with special dates, such as birthday, 1 year of dating, one year of wedding, among several other examples. I really don't mind. May, 12th celebrates a day that I never imagine we could reach, it is the celebration of one year since the first Loronix post. It is a Saturday and Caetano's mind is on 1,000 KHz of ideas. Tomorrow, we will let you know about a great Caetano's idea that we will need your feedback to make it happen. Meanwhile, let's check this record, another fine release sponsored by Caetano Rodrigues.

This is Phil Woods - Astor & Elis (1996), for Chesky, featuring the sax and clarinet of Phil Woods on a personal and passionate tribute for Astor Piazzolla and Elis Regina. Actually, the first plan was to make a whole album to Elis Regina, which is Woods' favorite singer, he said he always take a couple of Elis Regina albums when touring, along with some Charlie Parker, some Billie Holiday, etc.

Five out of the eleven titles in the album are by Astor Piazzolla, and another, Piece for Piazzolla is Phil's tribute to him. The rest of the tunes are Brazilian, excepting Con Alma by Dizzie Gillespie. Caetano strongly recommends this record and Phil Woods’s albums with Brazilian music and Brazilian artists always take me by surprise. It is really wonderful that Phil Woods dedicated an entire recording to these really important artists from Brazil and Argentina.

Tracks include:

01 - Dois pra La, Dois pra Ca
02 - Piece for Piazzolla
03 - Adios Nonino
04 - Oblivion
05 - Milonga del Angel
06 - Leija's Game
07 - Invierno Porteno
08 - Elis
09 - Introduction to Cais / Atras da Porta
10 - Nada Sera Como Antes
11 - Con Alma

Elis Regina e Conjunto de Cesar Camargo Mariano - Live in Tokyo (1979)

.
.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 19 de janeiro 2007.

17!! Comentários originais incluídos.

Tracks & personnel nos Comentários.

I spoke with Caetano a few hours ago and I'm happy to made that call. Caetano remembered me an important date, Elis Regina passing twenty-five years ago. It seems it was yesterday. I remember this day, I was playing guitar at my grandfather's house with a group of friend when the new came from someone who told us. I was very young to understand what would be Elis Regina's passing along the forthcoming decades, but I got really sad, as I use to be everytime we heard about an artist passing.

Caetano said that would be a shame if Loronix does not make anything to remember Elis Regina and that's what we decided to do. This is Elis Regina e Conjunto de Cesar Camargo Mariano - Ao Vivo em Tokyo (1979), for Loronix Records (I could not resist, sorry!). Actually, this is not an Elis Regina career record, but the recording of her performance with Cesar Camargo Mariano on a live presentation made in Tokyo, 1979. I received this recording from a friend and the quality is pretty good.

Conjunto de Cesar Camargo Mariano accompanies Elis Regina and includes Cesar Camargo Mariano (piano), Helio Delmiro (guitar), Luizao (bass), Paulinho Braga (drums) and Chico Batera (percussion). The cover artwork is by zecalouro. If someone can prepare a better one, we will be pleased; if possible, we can replace this one. No tracks this time, but you will have 41 minutes of Elis Regina on a recording that probably nobody could hear before.
Elis Regina deserves more, so I'm showing the first songs performed by Elis at Montreux Jazz Festival.

Amazing video! Elis is pure class. This performance oozes with intensity & sincerity of emotion. She puts all of our American divas & their ridiculous vocal histrionics to shame. I can feel her despite barely understanding Portuguese. Thanks again, Zec, for sharing such wondrous stuff. (^x^)

Hello Thomas, Beltrao!
Actually, this is not a high quality copy and I'm fixing it in half an hour or so.
Thomas, I was waiting for the opportunity to thank you for the excellent comments you have been made at Loronix. They are really great.
That story with your girlfriend and that Portinho LP was hilarious. Keep the pace.
How long have you been here? Do you came by Soul Sides? Just a tiny curiosity.
Cheers, zeca

Thanks for the kind words. It is the least that I can contribute to your heavenly site. I've been on Loronix since last November and have enjoyed every second I've been on it. I hope to begin sharing my collection once I upgrade my PC. I must give you props on your knowledge, dedication & collection. Simply amazing. Keep it comin'!
PS I did not come by Soul Sides (a fine site, though).

Once again, you have made my day/week/month. I haven't listened to the Elis recording yet, but that video is AMAZING!
Sometimes her music (and that of some other brasilians) brings me to tears, I must tell you. I can only think of her in the same league as Maria Bethania, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Betty Carter (who I think had some similarities), and sometimes Anita O'Day. That's a great lineup for sure!
I was lucky to see her daughter, Maria Rita, live in Chicago last year; she is not her mother (I can't compare the two really) but she has some of the same captivating spirit in her singing and personality. I recommend both of her albums and especially both of her performance DVDs; they really capture the great songs/singing/musicianship of the whole group.
Abraços de os EEUU!
Adam

This is special. Any Elis is special but the fact that it's a live performance, available nowhere else that I know of, makes it extra special. What a rare treat. Sends chills up and down my spine.
All of the musicians complement Elis to perfection.
Sound quality is quite good.

Repost | Elis Regina & Hermeto Pascoal - Montreux Jazz Festival - Live (1979)

.
.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 08 de janeiro 2007

Versões com 9 e 16 faixas incluidos.

I have been receiving many requests from new Loronixers to repost this great LP recorded by Elis Regina and Hermeto Pascoal in Montreux Jazz Festival, 1979. Here is the new chance. I will keep the original post info by zecalouro. Do not miss the wonderful album review written by Stefan Sittig.

Original post text:

Let's close the Brazilian Divas pool acclaiming the winner, Elis Regina. This LP was recorded in 1979, Montreux Jazz Festival with Hermeto Pascoal. The album was kept unreleased until 1982 and it is a unique Elis Performance that zecalouro is making available to Loronixers.

zecalouro can’t make it better than the review wrote by Stefan Sittig at Amazon, as follows:

This LP captures Elis's brilliant performance at the 1979 Montreux Jazz Festival. The reason the album had not previously been released is because ticket sales had been so huge for Elis's show in Montreux, that the producers decided to add a matinee the same day of the evening show. Elis performed at the matinee, knocked them dead, but then lost steam for the evening show. She was tired, feeling wiped out from giving her all in the afternoon. Although Elis did get through the entire concert and at the end of that evening's performance, she was invited back on stage by Hermeto Pascoal to do some jamming sessions. Feeling perhaps revitalized, or more relaxed since the concert itself was over, Elis gave it her all and gave brilliant/improvisational renditions of classics of Bossa Nova, like "Corcovado", "Girl From Ipanema" and others. And Elis left the festival feeling at least vindicated for having sung well at the improv session with Pascoal.

But she was unhappy with the evening show, it wasn't good enough for Elis and she had her record producer promise never to release that concert live.

But 2 years later, after Elis had died, the record producer realized that they had also taped the afternoon show which had been wonderful! He then felt he must somewhat betray Elis's trust and find the master tapes for that stunning afternoon performance.

Well, he did and that, together with the improv/jam session with Pascoal, are what have been included in this latest CD release. And let me tell you, what a JOYOUS sound Elis produces, all the tracks are excellent, really, there are no stand-outs, all are uniformly brilliant.

Perhaps her jam session with Pascoal will be the most interesting section for her faithful, longtime fans, because she interprets classics in a totally new way. I can't think of another singer, except for perhaps Ella Fitzgerald, who could improv/scat/jam as well as Elis does in the session with Pascoal.

Pure brilliance, and a must-have for fans.

300 Discos Importantes:

1. Cobra Criada (João Bosco / Paulo Emílio)
2. Cai Dentro (Baden Powell / Paulo César Pinheiro)
3. Madalena (Ivan Lins / Ronaldo Monteiro de Souza)
4. Ponta de Areia / Fé Cega, Faca Amolada / Maria, Maria (Milton Nascimento / Fernando Brant)
5. Na Baixa do Sapateiro (Ary Barroso)
6. Upa Neguinho (Edu Lobo / Gianfrancesco Guarnieri)
7. Corcovado (Tom Jobim) Participação: Hermeto Pascoal
8. Garota de Ipanema (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes) Participação: Hermeto Pascoal
9. Asa Branca (Luiz Gonzaga / Humberto Teixeira) Participação: Hermeto Pascoal
.
Rapidshare:  (1979) Montreux Jazz Festival  with Hermeto Pascoal
.
