It is truly amazing the feedback given to Ademilde Fonseca on two recently released records. I admit that she was not on my radar and if there is someone who should receive credits for the recent Ademilde Fonseca posts is Elso Legey, he was the first to shout out loud at CBox for an Ademilde Fonseca album. It is hard to believe that Ademilde Fonseca released only a few records on a career that spans decades. This album was recorded in 1975 and follows immediately Choros Famosos (1962), a hiatus of 13 years on recordings. Let’s see.

This is Ademilde Fonseca – A Rainha do Chorinho (1975), for Top Tape, featuring Ademilde Fonseca chorinho standards with some new compositions, including Titulos de Nobreza “Ademilde no Choro” written by Joao Bosco and Aldir Blanc as a gift to Ademilde Fonseca. I think this album is a real find, a breathtaking constellation of Brazilian musicians were in this session, and among many other surprises, I got really amazed with the open tune, Choro Chorao, a choro composition by the Samba legend Martinho da Vila. I think Loronixers will also be amazed with this really nice album, it seems that everybody likes Ademilde Fonseca.

Last Saturday, I had the tough mission to announce to our community the passing of the Brazilian violao player Cesar Faria. In that time I got really disappointed to make a tribute with no music and this post can be considered a complement for last Saturday tribute. Cesar Faria was founder and member of Conjunto Epoca de Ouro until his passing and I’m now glad to show Loronixers an album by Conjunto Epoca de Ouro and also really amazed by the music they play at this record. If remaining albums by Conjunto Epoca de Ouro are such like this one, we need to track them all. Let’s see.

This is Conjunto Epoca de Ouro – Conjunto Epoca de Ouro (1975), for Continental, featuring Cesar Faria and his Conjunto Epoca de Ouro on 12 renditions of classic Choro compositions by Paulinho da Viola, Jacob do Bandolim, Villa Lobos, Chico Buarque de Hollanda, among many others. A hint is necessary, use speakerphones to identify each instrument, hearing the individual performances of each Conjunto Epoca de Ouro member, it is a very nice experience. I like Francis Hime, although I’m not versed on his vast discography, being only a careful listener of the albums available at Loronix, Francis Hime – Francis Hime (1973), a masterpiece and Francis Hime – Se Porem Fosse Portanto (1978). Francis Hime is a gifted musician, arranger, composer and singer and uses to deliver all this elements on his albums, which is his strength.

This is Francis Hime – Sonho de Moco (1981), for Som Livre, featuring the very special guest Maria Hime, the vocal group Boca Livre and Milton Nascimento. Francis Hime debut LP is really hard to beat, but this one really worth the attention.

Personnel listing features a constellation of musicians, including Wilson das Neves, Jacques Morellenbaun, Nelson Angelo, Novelli, Chico Batera, Ed Maciel, Neco, Dino 7 Cordas, Formiga, Marcio Montarroyos, Maurilio da Silva Santos, Robertinho Silva, Oberdan, Luiz Alves, among many others. This is Jacob do Bandolim – Epoca de Ouro | Jacob e Seu Bandolim em HI-FI (1958), for RCA Victor. Jacob do Bandolim recorded this album in 1958, and it is really different from his regular choro releases. Jacob is backed by and orchestra arranged by Maestro Radames Gnatalli and Maestro Carioca with Maestro Zaccarias in charge of conduction. There is also a Conjunto, not with a traditional Choro formation, featuring bass, piano, sax and accordion performed by renowned Brazilian musicians. The first post was made with a mid 60’s RCA Candem reissue and this is the first RCA Victor original issue, featuring this beautiful cover that finally arrives at Loronix.

Hello, good evening! This is another awesome contribution sponsored by Jorge Mello, featuring – forgive me if I’m wrong – the last album recorded by the Brazilian guitarist Codo, a very important musician acknowledged by many others, such like Elizeth Cardoso and Baden Powell, who wrote a tune dedicated to Codo, Um Abraco no Codo, released on Baden Powell’s 27 Horas de Estudio (1969), Elenco.

Let’s see.

This is Codo – Coisas da Minha Terra (1978), for CID, a beautiful celebration to Codo’s music. Codo is backed by a constellation of Brazilian musicians, including Sivuca (also in charge of arrangements), Wilson das Neves, Dino 7 Cordas, Copinha, Neco, Paulo Moura, among many others.

Coisas da Minha Terra works under two different concepts.

Side A is all instrumental and brings an interview with Codo between the four tracks with the participation of Sergio Cabral, Sivuca and Antonio Mascarenhas.
Side B has lyrics with Codo singing, playing and supported by a choir, including Jaime Alem and Nair Candia. Elizeth Cardoso is the special guest on Side A second track, Indecisa Aurora (Codo / Itamar Souza e Silva). Coisas da Minha Terra should address wants and needs of everybody with these two different approaches.

Valeu mesmo por este, Zecalouro! Vc saberia dizer se o Codó chegou a gravar uma valsa dele chamada “Leninha” (ou “Valsa para Lená”), já gravada algumas vezes pelo Paulo Moura? Procurei o que conheço da discografia do Codó e não achei nenhum registro dessa canção, seja ela Leninha ou Valsa para Lená.

Arthur Moreira Lima – Com Licenca… (1981)

Since I started Loronix I have been thinking about posting this album. Being open and honest, I decided on making it today in response of the feedback given to the last Arthur Moreira Lima release, the first at Loronix, a contribution by AdHoc, the contributor that really rocks. AdHoc contribution was the first album recorded by Arthur Moreira Lima, totally dedicated to Ernest Nazareth compositions.

This time, Arthur delivers a completely different record, less formal and featuring compositions by popular Brazilian artists, such like: Paulo Moura, Laercio de Freitas, Elomar, Heraldo do Monte, among others. Let’s see.

This is Arthur Moreira Lima – Com Licenca… (1981), for Kuarup, a piano solo album recorded at Sala Cecilia Meirelles, Rio de Janeiro. According with the back cover, there was no audience and Sala Cecilia Meirelles was used by the acoustics. I would like to post a video, but my searches for a single one had failured. It is disappointing, when I was young, it was common to watch Arthur Moreira Lima performances on Brazilian TV and seems that nobody recorded a single one. Arthur Moreira Lima said that a musician called Mestre Horondino Silva has an important participation at Subindo ao Ceu giving hints on how make the “baixaria” (bass lines). Horondino Silva is also known as Dino 7 Cordas, a great Brazilian musician that never had a chance of recording a solo LP.

This post is to show my commitment to deliver a unforgettable Samba Saturday tomorrow. Friends like moos and many other Samba enthusiasts are getting disappointed with 3 non-Samba weekends at Loronix and there is nothing more associated with Samba than Clara Nunes. Let’s see.

This is Clara Nunes – Guerreira (1978), for Odeon. We have here a late album by Clara Nunes, featuring a mature artist with total control of his interpretation and beautiful voice. The first track gives the album title and worth the entire record. I’m not knowledgeable on Clara Nunes discography, so I’m taking in consideration my listening experience and this one is so far the most pleasant Clara Nunes I have ever heard. Personnel features a constellation of Brazilian musicians with three Maestros in charge of arrangements, as highlighted on track list.

Let’s move forward with the Samba Saturday posts showing an artist released in the end of 2006 with her debut LP,Sonia Lemos – Sonia Lemos e Sua Viola Enluarada (1968), the

one with Sonia Lemos at Copacabana beach in your left. It is a very nice album with Sonia Lemos performing as a Bossa Nova singer.

If you see this cover, it is easy to understand that Sonia Lemos made a shift from Bossa Nova to Samba de Raiz music with Afro-Brazilian religion influence, such like Clara Nunes and Beth Carvalho. Let’s see.

This is Sonia Lemos – Perola de Agonita (1976), for Continental, featuring Sonia Lemos 8 years after her successful debut LP. Definitively, she is also a great Samba interpreter, but not in the first tier, such as Clara Nunes. I could not find much information about Sonia Lemos to bring more clarification on her shift, but Pedra de Agonita is solid, like any other recording in the style and counts with a constellation of Brazilian musicians.
