This is a lovely record of a very old and popular pianist, my Grandfather would love to hear this music. Perhaps nobody heard about this artist, except a few ones, such like Caetano Rodrigues. Let's see what happens with this one.

This is Muraro - O Incrivel Muraro (1958), for BSA, featuring Muraro (piano) and orchestra. I could not search successfully for Muraro info and I do not know if he got some recognition when active from the 30's to the early 60's, but it is always a pleasure to show new artists at Loronix and hopefully brings some good memories for the ones who where in touch with their art at the period they where active. When we close this circle, I feel good feelings.

What a fantastic LP, Zeca. It reminds me in some way of Piano com Mona by Peruchin the great cuban pianist, although of course a different reportoire entirely.
Anyway I found this interesting reference to Muraro who was Argentinean...

This is an artist that will have always a place on my collection, he puts a special touch on everything he makes, from solo releases, which are very hard to find and we could only have the first at Loronix with the help of Caetano Rodrigues, and his participations on other artists recordings as arranger or trombonist, we have many nice examples at Loronix, let's see.

This is Nelsinho e Sua Orquestra - Nelsinho Espetacular (1968), for Odeon. I have been looking for a better cover artwork for this album that I have only the music sent by a friend. It is so great that I cannot wait longer. It was released just after Nelsinho e os Seus Trombones, kindly provided by Caetano. Maestro Nelsinho had a great activity in the 60's until the mid 70’s; I could not find any kind of activity before this period. Nelsinho is a great maestro; any information about his current activities is really appreciated.

How long we do not see a new album from the great Sivuca at Loronix? I cannot remember by heart when it was, probably last year. Anyway, this is a nice record, probably unknown by several friends. By the way, this is a last year contribution of a friend from Argentina, Luis Contijoch, which I want to say thank you and give my appologies for such delay on posting. This happen with many friends.

This is Sivuca - Sivuca Med Putte Wickman Orkester (1968), for Interdisc - Sweeden, featuring Sivuca (violao, accordion and vocal), Putte Wickman (clarinet), Gõran Linhberg e Rolf Larsson (organ), Arne Willhemson (bass) e Fredrik Noren (drums). Do not take this record as the same of the previous Sivuca collaboration with Putte Wickman, which is something that our friend Luis did at that time.

This Sivuca appearance at the Swedish TV is really extraordinary! His impecable swing and domain of the melodic improvisation put the musician on the top of music-monsters pyramid. Only the accordion, without any other harmonic support...

Yeeees!!! I saw this on youtube a month or so ago and was soooo happy to SEE this great man performing. I already loved accordion, and jazz, and brazilian music, so it wasn't hard for me to fall in love with Sivuca the first time I heard him, but my gosh, that voice clenched it! Awesome!!!!

Muito legal! I had never heard of Sivuca until a few months ago (thanks to zecalouro) and now I'm totally obsessed with his music. He's the epitome of swing, brasilian music, and loose improvisation; I love it! This video is great; really shows how he and his other musicians worked together. Completely unique in my opinion. Obrigado!

I spent most part of the day outside to see what exactly is this phenomenon called Carnaval that stops Brazil for almost a week. I took my camera with me hoping to find nice shots of authentic Carnaval on streets of Rio to show Loronixers. Unfortunately, I could not make good shots in the middle of the crowd swinging and singing. Actually, this was a useful day; I could realize what exactly is my problem with Carnaval. I cannot feel happy as everybody uses to be in the middle of a parade. Carnaval is great, if you live outside of Brazil, come to see it next week, but it is something that I cannot explain is why everybody gets happy at Carnaval. Anyway, perhaps the problem is with zecalouro.



Let's continue today with that series of posts that zecalouro never had the nerve to share due several reasons. This one is another, now with really serious concerns about. I will tell you.


This is Oswaldo Luiz e Seu Conjunto - Boate do Faz de Conta (1963), for Discos Design. First disturbing thing, maybe wrong as I was yesterday on Mandrake Som, but in my opinion, this record is fake, never saw it on vinyl and was sent by someone in the very beginning of Loronix. Who ever heard about Discos Design? How is Oswaldo Luiz? What is the reason of this title with the phrase "Faz de Conta", on a free translation to English, "pretends to be". In spite of all the uncertainness, it is a nice record, featuring piano, bass, drums and guitar, very well played. Comments section is open to blame zecalouro for not knowing Oswaldo Luiz and this possibly legendary album.

Se for um disco 'falso', o cara que montou o repertório é do ramo. Eu apostaria, até, que o disco foi gravado em 1961/1962, quando várias das músicas do disco apareceram como novidade, tais como 'Et Maintenant', 'Zelão', 'O Barquinho', ou em regravações, como 'Taboo', 'Cry Me A River' e 'The Man I Love'. Vamos ver se aparece alguém para confirmar...

Já que v. tocou no assunto, devo dizer que também não consigo compreender essa euforia, essa alegria infundada do carnaval. E tem a cafonice imperdoável dos desfiles das escolas de samba. Coisa horrorosa! E a cada ano fica maior e mais brega. As escolas já estão quase imobilizadas, de tanto se empetecar e crescer para cima e para os lados. Em SPaulo, há uns 15 anos, as escolas daqui cismaram de começar a imitar as do Rio — e dá-lhe cafonice e mau gosto. Aqui é muito pior, porque é pobre.

I have been accumulating requests from friends to make the first post of one of the most famous Brazilian orchestra, Orquestra Tabajara, active since 1933. However, I never could find a record in good condition of out of print to show Loronixers. This post should partially fix this issue, a solo record from a Maestro that has his musical career with a tight connection with Orquestra Tabajara, which he is the leader since the foundation in 1933, Maestro Severino Araujo.

This is Severino Araujo - Orquestra Romantica de Severino Araujo - Teleco Teco em Cordas (1960), for Continental, a nice Severino Araujo album, probably unknown to the many fans of Orquestra Tabajara. Teleco Teco em Cordas blends Samba Rhythms with orchestra strings, all arranged by Severino Araujo.


If you have a Orquestra Tabajara LP to share if Loronixers, please get in touch, the Orquestra Tabajara was very important to Brazilian music throughout many decades. Several renowned musicians has participated in the orchestra on different times, such as K-Ximbinho, Ze Bodega, Julinho, Ed Maciel, among others.

Maestro Simonetti e Orquestra RGE - Brasil a Jato (1959) was one of the most successful posts at Loronix. That post was also very important as one of the first orchestra LPs made available here. That LP attracted several new Loronixers and most of them are here with us until today. I found this one on that amazing bargains and I think it is as good as Brazil a Jato. Same idea, a repertoire celebrating Brazil and specifically the city of Brasilia, the brand new Brazilian Capital at that time.

This is Maestro Simonetti e Orquestra RGE - Brasil Musical (1960), for RGE. Actually, this is a further reissue, which I do not have any info on its date. By the way, this one is ripped with my brand new equipment. Gimme some feedback, especially this one. I bought it on a very bad condition and perhaps this is the ultimate zecalouro test on LPs restorations.

Not sure what happened here, if it is a difference between the original RGE issue and this reissue, but most of the actual track list for Side 2 which you have credited is different than what is actually listed on the LP cover itself..

Hello, Good Night! I do not have words to explain how zeca got excited with this music. I'm wondering if he is a disguised Cuban parrot instead of a Brazilian Amazona Aestiva. He had a real fun today and he could not stop with his imitations of Maestro Carioca brass section all day long. When he gets excited, he uses to stay like the picture, with big pupils and the tail opened.

This post is a late homage to my very good friend zeca, which I took his picture to create Loronix character. Sometimes I feel confused with my real identity, even my old friends are starting to call me as zeca.







This is Carioca and His Cuban Percussion Orchestra - ChaChaCha Explosivo (no date), for Imperial/Odeon. In the mood of Carnaval, this album should fit the needs of those who are looking for a dancing orchestra set with Latin rhythms. It will be very nice to see a Cuban flavored Maestro Carioca after those nice Samba orchestra albums. Sorry about the release date, I could not gather and probably no one knows it. However, my estimates are from 1961 to 1963.

The choices were many for this closing post. They were sent to some Loronixers. One of them said I was killing him, torturing with all the choices. Anyway, the chance to make a mistake is reduced. Loro, você deve estar cansado de receber agradecimentos pelo trabalho que vem desenvolvendo. E não é para menos; há quanto tempo a boa música brasileira, rejeitada pelas gravadoras, não conseguia chegar a um público mais novo? No meio do ano passado, eu lhe sugeri pesquisa sobre a cantora Tuca. O resultado não poderia ser melhor, já que v. resgatou tudo que ela gravou. Pois é. Hummm, então foi você que puxou o primeiro foi de toda a trilogia da Tuca. Foi mesmo bacana, especialmente quando surgiu o sobrinho da Tuca. Obrigado por essa.
É. Depois de tudo isso, é dever ouvir com atenção as suas dicas. Eu tenho um dos LPs da coleção Tres Seculos de Música Brasileira, acredito que seja aquele que fala de Valsas e Polcas, o volume 1. Vamos deixar a poeira momesca baixar, o assunto é sério e precisa de dias de melhor concentração.

I'm having a great pleasure to make this post and I hope you have the same pleasure listening to this wonderful LP. I have been checking with the fans of Moacyr Silva about the availability of this album, I'm sure it is a very hard to find piece. This is the start of a series of five albums titled "Sax Sensacional" for Copacabana. I'm coming from a phone call with Caetano Rodrigues this first Sax Sensacional LP is a missing piece on his great collection. This is Moacyr Silva e Seu Conjunto - Sax Sensacional (1960), for Copacabana, the first of a series of five classic albums from this great Brazilian musician, featuring - according with Caetano - the best formation of Moacyr Silva Conjunto, which is Moacyr Silva (sax), Chaim Lewak (piano), Luis Marinho (bass), Paulinho (drums) with Rubens and Geraldo (percussion). This quartet (Moacyr Silva, Chaim Lewak, Luis Marinho and Paulinho) is truly great, special attention to Chaim Lewak piano on this album, always nice.
