Nick Ayoub - Bossa Nova Jazz Samba (1962)

Incluida: Canadian Bossa Nova

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 29 de maio 2007.

It was really a treat listening this album and also a little bit confusing. The main performer is Nick Ayoub, but at a first sight, it seems we have a record made by a duo, Rosita and Deno. The story is delicious and is all about a promotion, everyone who bought this album could take the back cover to one of Rosita and Deno dancing schools and claim 2 free Bossa Nova lessons. Fascinating. Buy the album, hear the music and get 2 free dancing classes with Rosita & Deno.

This is Nick Ayoub - Bossa Nova Jazz Samba (1962), for Trans Canada Music Company, a wonderful instrumental album featuring Niki Ayoube and his orchestra. Personnel is not credited but we have top-notch musicians at this set. The repertoire is also unusual with music that seems to be composed only for this album. I never danced in my life and if I were in Canada by that time, the story of my life could be different with Nick Ayoube and Rosita & Deno, only Caetano to bring such wonderful discoveries to Loronix.

Tracks include:

01 - Canadian Bossa Nova
02 - Prelude to Bossa Nova
03 - Nick's Nova
04 - Gella Nova
05 - New One
06 - Aureles
07 - Bossa Me
08 - Bossa Nova Orientale
09 - Bossa Sway
10 - Jazz me In

Pocho e Seu Conjunto - Dancando Com Sucessos (1960)

Incluida: Presidente Bossa Nova

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 27 de maio 2007.

It is great to show another album from this artist, mainly by the circumstances this record was found, lost in the street, not exactly lost, but abandoned in the middle of CDs sold by a guy in the street. I got it on a really bad shape and now it is really a pleasure to bring it back to life and show to Loronix friends. I'm including with the package the back cover with no restoration just to give you the idea if how badly it was. In the other hand, the vinyl performed very well and the music is truly great.

This is Pocho e Seu Conjunto - Dancando Com Sucessos (1960), for RGE. Pocho (Rubens Perez), is an Uruguayan Maestro that established himself in Brazil in the late 50's, releasing several albums and participating as arranger and director of works from several renowned Brazilian musicians and singers. Pocho is one of Caetano favorites and his music is not easily found at old vinyl shops. The last Pocho album I could track was released in 1970 and no further information of his artistic career was found when I searched for info.

Tracks include:

01 - Marina (R. Granata)
02 - Mira Que Luna (Elgos / Malgoni)
03 - Carinho e Amor (Tito Madi)
04 - Presidente Bossa Nova (Juca Chaves)
05 - Tintarella Di Luna (Banho de Lua) (B. de Fillippi / Migliacci)
06 - Me Leva (José Garcia / Anísio Silva / Silas de Oliveira)
07 - Menina Moça (Luis Antônio)
08 - Romântica (R. Rascel / D. Verde)
09 - El Vagabundo (V. Simon)
10 - Marcianita (J. I. Marcone / G. V. Alderete)

Eddie Harris – Bossa Nova (1963)

.

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 06 de agosto 2007.

Here we go with the International Bossa Nova, by Caetano Rodrigues. This is really the most exciting and unpredictable post of the day, which is not the case of this one, I’m sure this album will hit the ceiling making the happiness of several friends.
Let’s see another Caetano’s treasure.

This is Eddie Harris – Bossa Nova (1963), for Vee-Jey, featuring the sax tenor of Eddie Harris, the piano of Lalo Schifrin and many others.

This is not one of those warm albums released in response of the Bossa Nova boom in the early 60′s. It is music for grownups, which will take you by surprise, making you listening to it several times.

Martoni:
When the bossa nova wave came crashing through America, naturally the folks at VeeJay thought that their star saxophonist should give it a shot -- and this LP came and went with the tide. But far from being a casual response to a fad, this is a great record, one where Harris came to his own comfortable accomodation with the Brazilian idiom without the aid of a single Luiz Bonfa or A.C. Jobim standard. Harris not only retains his own sound, he leans pleasingly into the bossa groove with a lightness of tone and swing that rivals pack leader Stan Getz, and he even stretches out into feverish Coltrane territory in his solo on the ten-minute "Cev Y Mar." Credit a young neighborly Argentinian, the endlessly versatile Lalo Schifrin, for the solid piano work, half of the tunes, and the gritty group arrangements, but it is Eddie who comes up with the most beguiling composition, "Lolita Marie." Also guitarist Jimmy Raney checks in on a few tracks with some relaxed bop licks.

must…..listen……now……

Jim R on Thursday, 15 March, 2007 Yes, very good album! I never had the LP, but this was released on CD under Lalo Schifrin’s name (titled “Bossa Nova Groove”) on the spanish label Ubatuqui. Another LP was also included on the CD, an Audio Fidelity LP titled “Bossa Nova- New Brazilian Jazz”.
Great band… Jimmy Raney is one of my heroes.

Edgar Gianullo – O Assunto é Edgard (1964)

Hello, good evening! Great posts are scheduled for today, most of them instrumental albums, we had several albums with lyrics last week and it is now time to give another chance to instrumental music. The great Marcelo Munhoz, from the mighty Sambassonics is responsible for this great contribution, an album from an artist never released at Loronix that I was tracking down for months. Let’s see this nice pick from the wonderful Marcelo Munhoz LP collection.

This is Edgar Gianullo – O Assunto e Edgar (1964), for Farroupilha, the small but very influent Brazilian record label from the 60′s that always releases nice albums. O Assunto e Edgar is the first album by Edgar Gianullo, a Brazilian arranger and guitar player that we had the chance to see a couple of weeks ago performing with Mauricio Einhorn on a video. Tasso Bangel from Conjunto Farroupilha is behind the scenes as producer and personnel list is truly amazing.

Tracks include:

Personnel:

Edgar Gianullo

Maguinho

Francis Hime – Sonho de Moço (1981)

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 14 de setembro 2007.

I like Francis Hime, although I’m not versed on his vast discography, being only a careful listener of the albums available at Loronix, Francis Hime – Francis Hime (1973), a masterpiece and Francis Hime – Se Porem Fosse Portanto (1978). Francis Hime is a gifted musician, arranger, composer and singer and uses to deliver all this elements on his albums, which is his strength.

This is Francis Hime – Sonho de Moco (1981), for Som Livre, featuring the very special guest Maria Hime, the vocal group Boca Livre and Milton Nascimento. Francis Hime debut LP is really hard to beat, but this one really worth the attention.

Personnel listing features a constellation of musicians, including Wilson das Neves, Jacques Morellenbaun, Nelson Angelo, Novelli, Chico Batera, Ed Maciel, Neco, Dino 7 Cordas, Formiga, Marcio Montarroyos, Maurilio da Silva Santos, Robertinho Silva, Oberdan, Luiz Alves, among many others. I’m asking the excellent
Discos do Brasil for help with personnel listing.

Tracks include:

01 – A Tarde (Francis Hime / Olivia Hime)
02 – Lua de Cetim (Francis Hime / Olivia Hime) - Maria Hime
03 – Patuscada (Francis Hime / Cacaso) - Boca Livre
04 – Luar (Francis Hime / Olivia Hime)
05 – Hora e Lugar (Francis Hime / Cacaso)
06 – Luis (Francis Hime / Nelson Ângelo)
07 – Homem Feito (Francis Hime / Milton Nascimento) - Milton Nascimento
08 – Amor Barato (Francis Hime / Chico Buarque)
09 – Doce Vida (Francis Hime / Toquinho)
10 – O Farol (Francis Hime / Milton Nascimento)
11 – Cachoeira (Francis Hime)
12 – Sonho de Moço (Francis Hime / Milton Nascimento)

Hello,
I’ve got a random comment and one random question. First, I knew very little about Brazilian music before stumbling onto your blog a few months ago. I’ve been an ardent follower ever since. You’ve introduced me to some beautiful new music and I’m much appreciative. Second, I was looking at Discos do Brasil and, just wondering, what is the song that plays as their website opens??
Thanks,
Jon

Angela Maria e Waldir Calmon - Quando os Astros se Encontram (1958)

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 16 de dezembro 2006.

I have been searching for LP since the first day of Loronix and now I'm very happy to make it available to my friends. It is all about two artists that I like very much and so different to each other in terms of style. Let's see how they perform together.

This is Angela Maria e Waldir Calmon - Quando os Astros se Encontram (1958), for Copacabana. You will find enclosed the back cover with some interesting information about how this LP was born. In summary, Waldir Calmon had a nightclub in Rio de Janeiro, the legendary Arpege. On a given day, Angela Maria went to Arpege and performed together with Waldir Calmon some tunes to an astonished audience. They were very famous by that time and I’m sure this meet was a great happening.
The idea of making a LP together came very soon and this is what is being presented here, Angela Maria singing with the accompaniment of Waldir Calmon e Seu Conjunto. This LP is the original 1958 issue and was found on a bad shape. You will hear some clicks, clacks and hisses as natural consequence of its 50 years of life, but I believe that it will not spoil the experience.

Tracks include:

01 - Na Baixa do Sapateiro
02 - Vamos Maria Vamos
03 - Brigas de Amor
04 - Flores Negras
05 - Baiao Diferente
06 - La Leyenda de Beso
07 - Pra Fazer Nosso Samba
08 - Risque
09 - Havana So
10 - O Samba e o Tango (Chegou a Hora)
11 - Travesso
12 - Babalu

Charlie Rouse - Bossa Nova Bacchanal (1963)

Charlie Rouse from 1959 to 1970 is on the perform in the Thelonious Monk quartet, he make about the saxophone performance inquire, but 1962 at that time this record is recorded he was the still one member.

Around end of 50 age the Bossa Nova which starts in Brazil sparked to America, to beginning this year the album "Jazz Samba" the guitar player Charlie Bird and Stan Getz of the same tenor player was awarded Grammy Award, reached the point where many jazz men pick up Bossa Nova, but from former times there was an interest in Latin music, also Charlie Rouse at the time of the production of this record, feeling of pure jazz is gathered in Bossa Nova, that melodious adlib has colored the numbers of the Bossa Nova famous music vividly. In addition there are some whose also it is very much interesting for kingcraft label "Blue Note" of jazz to pick up Bossa Nova. Even in the Bossa Nova record of many jazz as for this record is not to be able to call the optimum masterpiece, probably will be? Excelent disk of the jazz bossa nova where it is bright, pleasant and hides "Bossa Nova Bacchanal" until heart it goes, please enjoy.

Chico Buarque de Hollanda – Compacto Duplo (1967)

I think this is another great finding sponsored by my mother, who brought this compacto duplo (EP) in her last contribution to our community. I could not find this little record listed in any discography checked and I believe he brings something never released on regular Chico Buarque albums, which is the recording of of Roda Viva, featuring the vocal group MPB-4 in the III Festival da Musica Popular Brasileira in 1967.

My memory has not been very good recently, but I remember someone asking for this tune.
Let’s see.

This is Chico Buarque de Hollanda – Compacto Duplo (1967), for RGE, featuring the participation of MPB-4 at Roda Viva in III Festival da Musica Popular Brasileira and Carolina, taken from the II Festival Internacional da Canção, Rio de Janeiro. This cover artwork alone worth the admission of this nice album. I would like to say thanks to everybody and give my apologies for the recent outages at Loronix, my work on these issues are not finished and probably we will have a better and fast website as soon as the situation gets back to normal.

Tracks include:

01 – Roda Viva (Chico Buarque) with MPB-4 at II Festival da Musica Popular Brasileira
02 – A Televisão (Chico Buarque)
03 – Carolina (Chico Buarque) at II Festival Internacional da Cancao

Neco e o Seu Violão - Coquetel Bossa Nova (1963)

It was very hard to decide the end post of the day. I was on a conflict between two other choices, but when it comes to my attention that Caetano sent to us an additional Neco LP, the decision was taken on less then a second. Jean Yves (Jean do Trombone) will be very pleased to see Neco when he wakes up in the morning. Jean is a great friend of our community and had the chance to play and have a friendship with Neco. Jean said that besides being a unique guitarist, Neco is also a great human being. Thanks Caetano for the chance to present to Loronixers these really hard to find Neco solo releases.

This is Neco - Coquetel Bossa Nova (1963), for CBS. The first Neco solo album, although some reviewers takes Coquetel Bossa Nova as the second Neco album, taking the first as Samba Nova Concepcao (1963), widely associated as an Eumir Deodato LP. I need more clarification on this subject, share your thoughts at comments section,

Tracks include:

01 - Jogado Fora (João Mello)
02 - Você (Rildo Hora / Clóvis Mello)
03 - Está Nascendo Um Samba (Tito Madi / Romeo Nunes)
04 - Se Chegou Assim (Othon Russo / Newton Ramalho)
05 - Ah Se Eu Pudesse (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
06 - Corcovado (Tom Jobim)
07 - Nós e o Mar (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
08 - Com o Amor Não Se Brinca (Romeo Nunes / Carlito)
09 - Tem Dó (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
10 - A Mesma Rosa Amarela (Capiba / Carlos Penna Filho)
11 - Triteza e Solidão (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
12 - Sorriu Pra Mim (Garoto / Luis Cláudio)

This LP was arranged and conducted by Astor. Interesting is the fact, that on many tracks Astor used the same arrangements he made for the Tito Madi LP "Amor e paz" (CBS 4021) on which Neco`s guitar is also heavily featured. When you compare the tracks it sounds like the same session, only Neco`s guitar is heard instead of Tito Madi`s singing.

I just had a call with Frank-Oliver.
He told he wrote a comment to this Necoalbum and the orchesterthing between this Neco and this Tito Madi album "Amor em paz" which I posted long ago on my bossanovadreamer blog- Actually it is out of time on my blog . But If all goes good I will send this night to Zeca and we will have a wonderful re-post so all Loronixers can compare both albums-

Zecalouro,
You can't just imagine how long I was looking for this record. THANK YOU ! I love Neco and his guitar. Meanwhile, I do have "Samba Nova Concepção" and it is indeed credited to Deodato (Os Catedráticos). But www.sombras.com.br said this is a mistake. In fact, if we compare this record with others' Catedráticos, it is easy to note the difference, so I agree with Sombras.
Cheers, all the best ! (for you and Caetano !)

t has been three months since the first Neco LP made available to Loronixers and this one provided by Caetano Rodrigues. I kept an eye during these 90 days on old vinyl stores, auction sites and virtual communities to gather another out of print Neco LP.

I’m very happy with this sharing and probably many friends. Thanks also to Jean Yves (Jean do Trombone) for his very gentle comments at the shout box asking for Neco LPs with passion, living far from Brazil in France, this release should be special to Jean Yves. I understand this kind of feeling and Caetano either and that is the magic of our community, the celebration of the music from Brazil.

This is Neco – Samba e Violao (1967), for London. If you got amazed with the earlier released Velvet Bossa Nova, get yourself ready to be paralyzed by this one, a nice violao instrumental album that will make the day of several friends, specially the musicians from Brazil. This country has a unique violao tradition, an instrument loved by every musician.

Tracks include:

01 – Upa Neguinho (Edu Lobo / Gianfrancesco Guarnieri)
02 – Agora É Cinza (Alcebíades Barcelos “Bide” / Armando “Marçal”)
03 – Opinião (Zé Keti)
04 – Disparada (Geraldo Vandré / Theo de Barros)
05 – Olê Olá (Chico Buarque)
06 – Não Tenho Lágrimas (Milton de Oliveira / Max Bulhões)
07 – Apelo (Baden Powell / Vinicius de Moraes)
08 – Não Me Diga Adeus (Paquito / Luis Soberano / João Correia da Silva)
09 – Doralice (Antônio Almeida / Dorival Caymmi)
10 – O Morro Não Tem Vez (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
11 – Samba do Avião (Tom Jobim)
12 – Só Tinha de Ser Com Você (Tom Jobim / Aloysio de Oliveira)

What a great album of one of the best brazilian bossaguitarists Caetano shows us here. It is unbelievable how Neco plays here the guitar – I understand where the (as I heard about) very quiet Neco gives all his energy- in beautiful guitar playing-thank you so much for this Neco !!!

Neco - Samba e Violao Vol. 2 (1968)

.
.

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 07 de abril 2007.

I do not have a clue of what zecalouro is planning as the last post and I hope he makes the right choice, at least picking up a nice cover such like this one and the last one with the girl in front of a yellow background. Today seems to be the "beautiful cover" day at Loronix.

When I made available the first record of this wonderful Brazilian guitar player I would never realize that we would make three additional releases, all provided by Caetano Rodrigues, which I say thanks for sharing this rare Neco LPs.

This is Neco - Samba e Violao Vol. 2 (1968), for London. Little is known about this album, the back cover has just the same black and white picture of front cover with track list. What is known is Caetano's and zecalouro's opinion, which are both very positive with zeca saying that among the four Neco LPs he have heard, this is the best one. This is a very hard to find and an excellent album; we should thanks Caetano for making it available to our community on a really nice quality.

Tracks include:

01 - Andança (Danilo Caymmi / Edmundo Souto / Paulinho Tapajós)
02 - É Preciso Cantar (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
03 - Sabiá (Tom Jobim / Chico Buarque)
04 - Você Passa e Eu Acho Graça (Carlos Imperial / Ataulfo Alves)
05 - Despedida de Mangueira (Benedito Lacerda / Aldo Cabral)
06 - Canção do Amanhecer (Edu Lobo / Vinicius de Moraes)
07 - O Cantador (Dori Caymmi / Nelson Motta)
08 - Sonho de Lugar (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
09 - Helena Helena Helena (Alberto Land)
10 - Implorar (Kid Pepe / Germano Augusto / Gaspar)
11 - Retrato Em Branco e Preto (Tom Jobim / Chico Buarque)
12 - Chorinho A (Neco)

Some of Loronix friends says that this is a late release, but I think, after more than 400 releases the timing is good to present Tania Maria – Apresentamos Tania Maria (1966), for Continental.

I’m not sure if it is Tania’s debut LP, but it is a very early release of this Brazilian singer, active through three decades since she started with the age of 13 encouraged by her father, also musician.

Tania Maria is also a pianist, building an active career outside Brazil, being recognized as a Jazz singer on several countries and by renowned musicians such like Charlie Byrd.

Personnel

Tania Maria
piano e voz

Neco
guitar

Luis Marinho

Once again Edison Machado show us that he is the real *samba* drummer.

This was her first album. Wonderful! I’ve wanted this forever and could never find it.
I think she made one more in Brasil before she moved to France.

I also look for Para Dancar Vol.2,
but as far as I know, Para Dancar
came after Apresentamos Tania Maria and is her 2nd album.

Frank, Arara, Friends,

This is the first Tania Maria LP:
PARA DANÇAR – VOL. 2 – Tânia Maria e Seu Conjunto (1963) Entré/CBS 4013
Para Dancar Vol. 2 is Tania Maria as band leader, not as solo. Anyway, it is only a matter of criteria. I will agree with my friends. :-)
Cheers, zecalouro

Wow! I attend to a Tania Maria concert in Spain a couple of years ago, and I bought her CD “Viva Brasil”.

Glad to see here her first solo LP. [Downloading, downloading!]
Thanks a lot, Zecalouro!

If this LP was reposted, it is gone again. If not, it would probably be a good one to offer again in the current posts. Your blog is truly the best, Zeca!

Tania Maria - Tania Maria Live (1979)

Hello, Good Evening! Everybody knows that Tania Maria is among the artists that I have limited knowledge about, but I know that Tania Maria puts her heart on top of everything she makes, mainly live concerts, which are the ones that I like most. This concert was first made available with the help of Jean-Yves, also known as Jean do Trombone, and now Caetano Rodrigues makes it again on a better quality, for mine and for Loronixers pleasure.

This is Tania Maria - Tania Maria Live (1979), for Accord, live performance at the Azzhus Montmartre, Copenhagen, featuring Tania Maria (piano and vocal), Andre Ceccarelli (bass) and Marc Bertheaux (drums). I decided to make it with no track separation, delivering to Loronixers a single track for each side.

Martoni:

Tracks include:

01 - Mr. & Mrs.
02 - Cartomante
03 - Pingas da Vida
04 - Seu Dia Vai Chegar
05 - O Que e Amar
06 - Carona

Anonymous on Thursday, 17 May, 2007Grande Zeca,Permita-me corrigir a ficha técnica:
O André Ceccarelli é o baterista e o Marc Berthaux é o baixista.
Eu também tenho esse vinyl (que tinha transformado em CD antes de conhecer este maravilhoso blog).
Muitas sementes de girassol pra você.
