Eu nunca ouvi Cauby 78rpm, fiquei curioso. Manda bala !!!
Vi q vc tirou aquele link “send Zecalouro a big file” do blog.

Hello, good evening! I want start the day with a great find, courtesy zecalouro’s mother, gradually improving her contributions and now deserves the title of a good vinyl hunter. She comes this time showing an important musician never released before at Loronix, Clodoaldo Brito, widely known as Codo, a Brazilian guitarist and composer from the state of Bahia. Codo had a active career as musician, recording eight albums as main performer, two singles and more than 90 compositions.
Let’s see.

This is Codo – Codo e o Violao | Serie Talento Brasileiro 3 (1977), for CID, featuring six instrumental renditions of Brazilian standards and six Codo compositions, the ones that I like most. Codo delivers a unique playing style, accompanied by not credited musicians. My highlight goes to 07 – Brincando com as Cordas (Codo), which is the selected Loronix Preview Center track. I’m convinced everybody should have a solid entertainment with this first album and Codo forthcoming releases at Loronix.

Tracks include:

01 – Quadradinho (Codó)
02 – Viola Enluarada (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
03 – Beija-me (Roberto Martins / Mário Rossi)
04 – Aos Pés da Cruz (Zé da Zilda / Marino Pinto)
05 – Gamadinho (Codó)
06 – Capoeira Três (Codó)
07 – Brincando Com as Cordas (Codó)
08 – Samba Mesmo (Codó)
09 – Confinça (Alcebíades Nogueira / Luis de França)
10 – Alegria Alegria (Caetano Veloso)
11 – Canção de Amor (Elano de Paula / Chocolate)
12 – Minha Favela (Codó / Francisco Dias Pinto)

Jacques Klein – Musicas de Dorival Caymmi na Interpretação de Jacques Klein (1953)

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 14 de fevereiro 2008.

Every time I think I know everything about Brazilian music, I find something that tells me that I have a lot to learn. This album is a perfect example, featuring an artist that I never heard about, but with a prolific discography and several contributions as sideman on other artist albums.
Let’s see.

This is Jacques Klein – Musicas de Dorival Caymmi na Interpretacao de Jacques Klein (1953), for Sinter, which is the fifth album released by Sinter in the 10-inch format. Jacques Klein is a pianist with a classical background, being the winner of 1955 Harriet Cohen contest in London as the best pianist of that year.

This album brings Jacques Klein accompanied by drums and bass performing instrumental renditions of Dorival Caymmi music, including two compositions where Jacques Klein is listed as Dorival Caymmi’s partner, 02 – Tao So and 07 – Nessa Rua Tao Deserta. The vinyl was on a terrible shape and you will notice eventual noise, so take it for its importance and the chance to list at Loronix a new artist with an important contribution to Brazilian music.

Tracks include:

Personnel

Jacques Klein
(piano)

 Vidal
(bass)

 Trinca
(drums)

Track List

01 – Dora (Dorival Caymmi)
02 – Tão Só (Dorival Caymmi / Jacques Klein / Carlos Guinle)
03 – Não Tem Solução (Dorival Caymmi / Carlos Guinle)
04 – Valerá a Pena (Dorival Caymmi)
05 – Marina (Dorival Caymmi)
06 – Nem Eu (Dorival Caymmi)
07 – Nesta Rua Tão Deserta (Dorival Caymmi / Jacques Klein / Carlos Guinle / Hugo Lima)

I am very happy to find this recording of Jacques Klein as I was a close friend of his. We used to play classical music together and I have never heard a pianist play like him ever since. His musical spirit and his ability to produce so many colors with the piano was outstanding and comparable to Arturo Benedetti-Michelangeli maybe. I hope to find more recordings of him. If there is anybody who could help me I would appreciate very much.

Henri Salvador
* Cayenne, Frans-Guyana, 18 juli 1917
† Parijs, 13 februari 2008

This is a very special gift that our community received today by our friend Cyril Morana from France. I don’t know how to express myself to show my gratitude to receive this really special record on such important day.

Cyril says he is very sad with Henri Salvador passing last Wednesday and I join him on his feelings for the lost of a true genius of planet Earth music.

This is Henri Salvador – Dans Mon Ile Nr. 3 (1958), for Barclay, in the 45rpm EP format, featuring Dans Mon Ile, a very important song that influenced Brazilian music and Bossa Nova, according with Antonio Carlos Jobim and many others.

Henri Salvador performs Dans Mon Ile and it is the definitive version among many others I have heard so far. I’m really glad to read the feedback given to yesterday’s tribute to Henri Salvador and with Cyril’s help I think we now have the tribute Henri Salvador deserves. The music is available as a direct link to everybody.

Tracks include:

01 – Dans mon île (Maurice Pon / H. Salvador)
02 – Marianne (Terry Gilkyson / F. Miller / R. Dehr / J. Larue)
03 – Mathilda (H. Thomas / F. Bonifay)

Henri Salvador was a great artist, entertainer/chansonnier, marvelous singer/composer and one of the most important 20th century genius of popular music!
Excuse me… but… Mr. Henri Salvador didn’t “create” or “inspire” the Bossa Nova movement. In fact, he included the Bossa Bova beat style in several own songs… after 1958 (official year of the birth of Bossa Nova in Rio de Janeiro…).
Ask about it to Mr. Ruy Castro… the writer of “Chega de Saudade”, the best book of Bossa Nova history.
I don’t want to create polemics… I just want to know the true about this fact. And I always love Henri Salvador musical work and his swinging voice. He deserves all my révérence and love.

Dick Farney Trio – Concerto de Jazz Ao Vivo (1973)

.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 15 de fevereiro 2008.
Comentários originais incluídos.

JOAO-SP sent us this great Dick Farney album, a missing piece on Dick Farney discography at Loronix.

Here we have Dick Farney as pianist, not as a singer, performing renditions of international standards. I could not identify where this recording session took place, but my best guess it was at Auditorio do Globo, since the photos are credited to O Globo, a newspaper based in Rio de Janeiro.

By the way, it is unbelievable that all Dick Farney career albums are not available commercially.
Let’s see.

This is Dick Farney Trio – Concerto de Jazz ao Vivo (1973), for London, featuring Dick Farney Trio performing live for the first time with a formation that brings two Jongo Trio musicians and also two active Dick Farney collaborators of many 70′s releases, Antonio Pinheiro Filho, also known as Toninho and Sebastiao Oliveira da Paz, the legendary Saba. If you are in the mood of listening a Jazz concert, featuring three great musicians performing a repertoire of standards with lots of improvisations, this is the album you were waiting for. Thanks once again JOAO-SP for this always surprising and never end set of albums you kindly sent to Loronix community.

Tracks include:

Personnel

DICK FARNEY TRIO

Dick Farney
(piano)
Toninho
(drums)
Saba
(bass)

Track List

01 – Perdido (Tizo / Lengsfelder / Drake)
02 – Thank You (Dziekuje) (Dave Brubeck)
03 – When Lights Are Low (Carter / Williams)
04 – Cute (N. Hefti)
05 – The Shadow Of Your Smile (J. Mandel / Paul Francis Webster)
06 – These Foolish Things (Remind Me Of You) (Strachey / Link / Marvell)
07 – Someday My Prince Will Come (Churchill / Morey)

Nana Caymmi – Nana (1977)

Comentários originais incluídos.

Bonus: Arquivo em FLAC.

I was googling something that I cannot remember this week when I found an article written by Aramis Millarch in 1977 at the great Tabloide Digital. Millarch said that Nana Caymmi was among the top five Brazilian singer and ironically she was widely unknown by the audience in Brazil. Immediately, I went to Loronix to Find It Nana Caymmi and I got surprised when Find It returned only one album, made available almost two years ago. It is necessary to bring Nana Caymmi to Loronix first page.
Let’s see.

This is Nana Caymmi – Nana (1977), for RCA Victor, featuring Joao Donato, Dori Caymmi, Durval Ferreira (diretor criativo) and Dorival Caymmmi as special guest on track 02 – Milagre. This is a beauty of an album recorded by a great singer with a great team of musicians. Most of these tunes are well known by Nana Caymmi and other artist’s performances with my highlights on 02 – Milagre, 05 – Falam de Mim, 08 – Cais and 09 – Se Queres Saber, which is the track listed at Loronix Preview Center.

Tracks include:

Personnel

Dori Caymmi
(arrangements, violao)

 Joao Donato
(piano)

 Ivan Lins
(piano, 11)

 Toninho Horta
(violao, 01)

 Novelli
(piano, 08)

 Luiz Alves
(bass)

 Robertinho Silva
(drums)

 Chico Batera, Ariovaldo
(percussion)

 Dorival Caymmi
(voice, 02)

Track List

01 – Dona Olimpia (Toninho Horta / Ronaldo Bastos)
02 – Milagre (Dorival Caymmi) with Dorival Caymmi
03 – Perdoa Meu Amor (Georges Moran / J. G. de Araújo Jorge)
04 – O Que Se Sabe de Cor (Fernando Leporace)
05 – Falam de Mim (Noel Rosa de Oliveira / Eden Silva / Aníbal Silva)
06 – Soneto à Mamá (Joan Manuel Serrat)
07 – Fingidor (Sueli Costa)
08 – Cais (Milton Nascimento / Ronaldo Bastos)
09 – Se Queres Saber (Peterpan)
10 – Meu Menino (Danilo Caymmi / Ana Terra)
11 – Não Há Lugar (Ivan Lins / Gilson Peranzzetta / Vitor Martins)
12 – Modinha (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)

Varios Artistas – Festival da Bossa Nova (1963)

.
.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 10 de fevereiro 2008.
Comentários originais incluídos.

Bonus: Arquivo em FLAC.

I have been monitor price and availability of this album since the very first beginning of Loronix. Perhaps this amazing cover artwork has called my attention to this record. I never had the chance to find it by a price I could afford at on-line auction sites and never had the chance to take it on my hands to understand what kind of Bossa Nova Festival was that.

Today I got it on my favorite old vinyl store in Copacabana for a unbelievable price.
Let’s see.

This is Festival da Bossa Nova (1963), for Odeon, unfortunately, not the live recording of a Bossa Nova Festival, but a compilation of Bossa Nova tunes performed by selected artists from Odeon cast, as follows: Walter Wanderley, Joao Gilberto, Isaura Garcia, Pery Ribeiro and Luiz Bonfa. The album was new as it would be in 1963 and played so nicely that I did not need to use any noise reduction application. This is the perfect record for those who are new to Bossa Nova and for those who are looking for a session performed by great artists based on a nice repertoire.

Tracks include:

The Performers

Isaura Garcia
Joao Gilberto
Luiz Bonfa
Pery Ribeiro
Walter Wanderley

Track List

01 – Samba de Uma Nota Só – João Gilberto
02 – Só Em Teus Braços – Isaura Garcia
03 – Menina Flor – Luis Bonfá
04 – O Barquinho – Pery Ribeiro
05 – Insensatez – João Gilberto
06 – Você e Eu – Walter Wanderley
07 – Desafinado – João Gilberto
08 – Fio de Canção – Luis Bonfá
09 – Corcovado – Isaura Garcia
10 – Chega de Saudade – João Gilberto
11 – Meditação – Walter Wanderley
12 – Melancolia – Luis Bonfá

This record is a compilation from well known Odeon LP`s from the featured artists, but “So em teus bracos” is not on a regular Isaura Garcia LP. This comes from an interesting album called: Hebe Camargo “Hebe comanda o espetaculo”1961 (Odeon MOFB-3224). This is the album with the famous living room front cover. On the whole album Walter Wanderley arranged and played tunes for different singers. It would be nice to see this album too one day at Loronix.

Evinha – Evinha (1973)

.
.
Originalmente postado no Loronix em 08 de setembro 2006.
Comentários originais incluídos.

A friend of zecalouro has asked to make available to Loronixers a LP of the Brazilian singer Evinha, which was member of the legendary Trio Esperança, a successful vocal group from the 60′s.

zecalouro took a 1973 Evinha LP, known as to be the hardest to find Evinha record. By the way, sometimes zecalouro uses to post records that were already posted on other friends blog. This should happen again, several times. zecalouro does not have time or skills to search all the blogsphere to check if someone else had first made a certain LP available.

Well, if you see an LP from another friend posted here without saying so, don’t be mad with the green bird. Just send him an email, available at zecalouro’s profile.

Back to Evinha, do not miss the AMG bio,

tracks include:

A successful vocalist in the Jovem Guarda in the Trio Esperança, Evinha had hits in her solo career with songs like “Teletema” (Antônio Adolfo/Tibério Gaspar), “Que Bandeira” (Marcos Valle/Paulo Sérgio Valle), “Como Vai Você” (Antônio Marcos), and “As Canções Que Você Fez Para Mim” (Roberto Carlos/Erasmo Carlos). Since her childhood, she sang together with siblings Mário Correia José Maria and Regina Correia José Maria. In 1958 the three of them formed the Trio Esperança, which had great success during the Jovem Guarda times and is still active. In 1968, she departed from the trio to pursue her solo career, being replaced by her sister Marisa Correia José Maria. Her first hit was “Casaco Marrom” (Guarabyra/Danilo Caymmi/Renato Corrêa). In the IV FIC (International Song Festival) in 1969, she won first place with “Cantiga Por Luciana” (Paulinho Tapajós/Edmundo Souto). In 1977, she recorded with Paul Mauriat. As the crooner of Mauriat’s orchestra, she toured Japan and China. In the ’90s, she rejoined the Trio Esperança. Appeared in solo performances in Brazil in 1999.

.

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 04 de fevereiro 2008.
Comentários originais incluídos.

The first thing I want to say is THANKS JOAO-SP for providing us such great contributions. JOAO-SP sent us more than 30 LPs; they are all new to our community, such as this beauty recorded by Maysa, one of the greatest Brazilian divas, not released at Loronix since May 2007. I had also some difficulty to realize this album was not a book, a Maysa biography written by Lira Neto last year.

I cannot remember this album being released on CD and I cannot understand why it was not released together with the book, since both shares the same title. Let’s see.

This is Maysa – Ando So Numa Multidao de Amores (1971), for Philips. Little I know about this album, except it is produced and directed by Roberto Menescal and arranged by Luiz Eca and Roberto Menescal. I think Luiz Eca also delivers piano playing to Maysa, perhaps our great friend Thiago Mello from
Bossa Brasileira, who knows everything about Maysa, can add something on top of my text. I think we will be on great company with Maysa. I wish to send a great Carnaval Monday to friends from Brazil and a great week start to everybody.

Tracks include:

01 – Molambo (Jaime Florence “Meira” / Augusto Mesquita)
02 – Yo Sin Ti (Arturo Castro)
03 – Me Deixe Só (Roberto Menescal / Maysa)
04 – Chuvas de Verão (Fernando Lobo)
05 – Três Lágrimas (Ary Barroso)
06 – Assim na Terra Como no Céu (Roberto Menescal / Nonato Buzar / Paulinho Tapajós)

Zeca,
You could hardly find more contrasting posts than those of last night. Bafo da Onça and Maysa: the ugly poison and the sublime antidote (respectively, of course!). You did it on purpose, didn’t you?

Os olhos de Maysa são dois não
Sei que dois não sei como digo
Dois oceanos não pacíficos
Maysa são dois olhos e uma boca

Dear Zeca,
his album was released on CD format in 1991 by Polygram (848272-2)and nevermore since then!

Maysa was more than a wonderful singer, she was a great artist, that also expressed as composer, actress, painter, sculptor and poetess. And after all, she was a beautiful woman.
