Some friends will think or say: “here comes zecalouro with another of those promotional albums for tourists in Rio de Janeiro…”. No problem, I would make only this cover that worth the entire experience with this antique. That’s why I’m making something different this time; I’m including a high-resolution copy of cover artwork with no Rapidshare. Let’s see.

This is Orquestra Popular da Guanabara – Rio (1968), for Premier, same concept used in the previous release of this kind, issued for promote tourism activities, musicians not credited, nice cover artwork picturing well-known spots in Rio de Janeiro and a repertoire full of standards. However, there is an exception, this album features an orchestra lead by Maestro Carioca, Orquestra Popular da Guanabara and the repertoire is a wonderful selection of songs with lyrics about Rio de Janeiro.

Tracks include:

01 – Cidade Maravilhosa (Andre Filho)
02 – Copacabana (Joao de Barro / Alberto Ribeiro)
03 – Rio, Eterna Capital (Raul Sampaio / Benil Santos)
04 – Rio de Janeiro, Quatrocentao (Claribalte Passos)
05 – Valsa de uma Cidade (Ismael Netto / Antonio Maria)
06 – Morro de Santa Tereza (Herivelto Martins)
07 – Rio Quatrocentao (Raul Sampaio / Benil Santos)
08 – Noites Cariocas (Oswaldo Borba / N. Wanderley)
09 – Rio (Ary Barroso)
10 – Rio Antigo (Altamiro Carrilho)
11 – Samba do IV Centenario (Claribalte Passos)
12 – Menino do Rio (Orlan Divo / Roberto Jorge)

Varios Artistas – I Festival Universitario de Musica Popular Brasileira (1968)

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 31 de julho 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

Yesterday, our Loronix friend Irinea Maria wrote me with a special mission, to find one of those Festivais da Cancao albums with a composition by her own performed by Claudette Soares. I thought it was one of those missions impossible to accomplish, since I have less than a few albums on the style, but Irinea was lucky, among these few I had the one she was looking for. Irinea got the second prize at this Festival while the song Helena, Helena, Helena, performed by Lucio Alves was the winner.

This is I Festival Universitario de Musica Popular Brasileira (1968), for Philips, featuring Claudette Soares, Jair Rodrigues, Quarteto Novo, Elis Regina, Lucio Alves and others. The last release in the style had a really bad ripping, but this one was made by Loronix engineers, under zecalouro supervision, no surprises this time.

Tracks include:

The Performers:

Lucio Alves
Claudette Soares
Jair Rodrigues with Quarteto Novo
Magda
Homero
Jorge Nery
Cyro Monteiro
Elis Regina
Paulo Marques
Sonia Lemos
Ruy Felip

Track List

01 – Helena Helena Helena (Alberto Land) – Lúcio Alves
02 – Frevo da Saudade (Fred Falcão / Paulinho Tapajós) – Claudette Soares
03 – O Violeiro (Homero Moutinho Filho) – Jair Rodrigues / Quarteto Novo
04 – Lembrança (Célia Vaz) – Magda
05 – Síncope Universal (Homero Moutinho Filho) – Homero
06 – Pobreza Por Pobreza (Gonzaguinha) – Jorge Nery
07 – Vida Breve (Neville / Irinéa Ribeiro) – Claudette Soares
08 – Até o Amanhecer (Dema / Ivan Lins) – Cyro Monteiro
09 – Um Novo Rumo (Arthur Verocai / Geraldo Flach) – Elis Regina

11 – Arruaça (Ruy Maurity / José Jorge) – Sônia Lemos
12 – Morena Porta-bandeira (Sergio Cruz) – Ruy Felipe

Parabéns a vocês. Onde posso baixar essa música/

Hello, good evening! Let’s start the day with a new contribution from Mauro R. V., which is a big enthusiast of Para Dancar albums specially those several ones recorded by Waldir Calmon. This time, Mauro R.V. sent to Loronixers the second LP, 10-inch format, from one of the pioneers, Norberto Baldauf. Let’s see.

This is Conjunto Melodico de Norberto Baldauf – Ritmos da Madrugada Nr. 2 (1956), for Odeon. I said Norberto Baldauf was a pioneer, he was the first out of a series of artists that came from the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, such as Elis Regina, Primo, Manfredo Fest and many others.

Personnel listing was not credited this time.

01 - Sertão de Jequié (Klécius Caldas / Armando Cavalcanti)

     - Balaio (Paixão Cortes / Barbosa Lessa)
     - Eu Sem Maria (Dorival Caymmi / Alcyr Pires Vermelho)

Hi Zeca,

nice to see a second Norberto Baldauf album here at Loronix.
There is a new website about Luiz Henrique called
http://www.luizhenrique.org
There we can read, that Luiz Henrique joined the Norberto Baldauf conjunto in 1960 for one year. Another member at the same time was Elis Regina. On the album
“Baldauf Retorna” (Philips 632.102L) from 1962 is one composition by Henrique “Se amor e isso”, but I never heard this album.
On the site you can also see, that a documentation about Luiz Henrique comes on 20.08.2007, but I don`t know if this will be aired on Brazilian TV or comes on DVD:

Em 20 de agosto de 2007 será lançado o documentário .”LUIZ HENRIQUE NO BALANÇO DO MAR” DE IEDA BECKDo you know something about this?

Frank-Oliver,

As I said yesterday, you always tell me things that I did not know.
I will visit this site and track down your information. I’m also contacting a friend who wrote a book about Mr. Baldauf, I’m sure he can be of help.
Cheers, zeca

Hello Zeca,
I love you for all you do here at Loronix and it is allways a pleasure to read that your are also a member of Moacyr’s fanclub (perhaps I should create one ) -)).I am happy about the quality of this album . Really you read somewhere perhaps on the backcover that this is Moacyr’s second album ?? I allways thought it was his first one recording.Best wishes

Hello Bossanovadreamer,
The first is Dancando com Voce, also in the 10-inch format, released in the same 1956.
It is easy to understand this one is the second, just look at this cover and you will see Dancando com Voce at the floor, close to Moacyr.
Cheers, zeca

Wonderful. I always thought I was right to pick some singles and EPs, but this album makes me feel that I’m 100% right. There are several treasures to discover on these little records and this one is a great surprise. Never gave a chance to it and when I gave it a spin today it was magic.

This is Os Farroupilhas – Os Farroupilhas EP 45rpm, for Columbia, featuring four tracks of pure beauty, nice repertoire and amazing voice arrangements. Little I know about this album, such as personnel and even release date, perhaps it was made in the early 60’s; it has much of Bossa Nova on it.

Tracks include:

01 – Nunca (Lupscinio Rodrigues)
02 – Noites de Moscou (D.P. arrangements & Lyrics Inah Bangel)
03 – Sabado em Copacabana (Dorival Caymmi / Carlos Guinle)
04 – Meu Rio Grande (Garoto)

I never gave the deserved attention to this album and I decided to give it a spin tonight. The first track worth the admission price. Perhaps the last time I heard Maysa was months ago, when her voice spread over the house I started feeling great and the tracks with Maysa, Tito Madi, Maysa, Tito Madi, etc. makes it very nice to hear. I don’t have idea if these tracks were released before on regular albums, but I’m sure RCA made a great repertoire selection. Let’s see.

This is Maysa & Tito Madi – Dois Na Fossa (1975), for RCA Candem. There are some very good tracks on Dois na Fossa. Fantasia de Trombones and Fantasia de Cellos are performed by Maysa and each one brings three songs. They are great. Tito Madi performs some tunes of the almost impossible to find Tito Madi – Tito Madi em Nova Dimensao (1968), they are: Helena, Helena, Helena, Franqueza, A Mesma Historia Antiga, Sem Ter Que Chorar and others.

Tracks include:
01 – “Fantasia de Trombones” Demais / Meu Mundo Caiu / Preciso Aprender a Ser Só –Maysa
02 – Helena Helena Helena – Tito Madi
03 – Ne Me Quitte Pas – Maysa
04 – A Mesma História Antiga – Tito Madi
05 – Canção Sem Título – Maysa
06 – Sem Ter Que Chorar – Tito Madi
07 – “Fantasia de Cellos” Primavera / Eurídice / Canção do Amanhecer – Maysa
08 – Franqueza – Tito Madi
09 – Just In Time – Maysa
10 – Chove Outra Vez – Tito Madi
11 – Morrer de Amor – Maysa
12 – Lindo – Tito Madi

Caetano Rodrigues will be amazing this Sunday morning when having breakfast checking what’s new at Loronix. I said to him that I gave up to make this album to Loronixers, due some technical problems with the music. However, this is a fantastic and rather unknown Marisa album and I had the help from friends to make the fixes I need. Thanks for this nice contribution Caetano.

This is Marisa – Little Club Apresenta Marisa (1961), for Copacabana, once again delivering a great cover artwork that makes you fell in the mood to travel back on time watch this concert at Little Club, which is the nightclub that Marisa performed before recording this album. The session is beautiful with Marisa backed up by a not credited trio. Marisa sings sweet, she whispers in your ear sometimes on a nice repertoire, based on Brazilian standards and some international songs.

Tracks include:

01 – Chuva para molhar o sol (Édson Borges – Agostinho dos Santos)
02 – Croquemitufle (Gilbert Becaud)
03 – Onde Estava Eu (Armando Cavalcanti – Victor Freire)
04 – Ternura Antiga (Ribamar – Dolores Duran)
05 – Quando Vien La Sera (Rossi – Testa)
06 – Deixa o Nosso Amor (Normando – Ronaldo Boscoli)
07 – Noves Fora Zero (Tony Vestante)
08 – Ninguem e de Ninguem (Toso Gomes – Umberto Silva – Luiz Mergulhao)
09 – I’m gonna live till I die (Hoffman – Kent – Curtis)
10 – Ceu e Mar (Johnny Alf)
11 – So em Teus Bracos (Antonio Carlos Jobim)
12 – Jonny Guitar (Victor Yong)

Thanks to Loronix I became a devoted fan of Maria Gata Mansa. This particular recording is realy beautiful especially because there is NO orchestration & maestro, which ruined the Marisa 1965 recording.
Is there any possibility to upload the Marisa simplesmente 1961? Or Leopardo…

It is cool to show singles and EPs to Loronixers. The format brings always the best picks of the artists and it is a good alternative for those who don’t want to face the long duration LP. In the other hand, there is no much to say about them, as short records, they are not conceptual. Anyway, let’s see the first out of series of singles and EPs scheduled for this week. I hope you like it; the feedback on Tamba was great.

This is Marisa – Marisa (1972), for Odeon as 7BD-1269 with four tracks. I could not check if all tracks were previously released or not on another format.

Tracks include:

01 – Viagem (João de Aquino / Paulo César Pinheiro)
02 – Depois De Tanto Amor (Paulinho da Viola)
03 – Estiada (Ivor Lancellotti / Marco Antônio Pinheiro)
04 – Samba do Estácio (Jair Amorim / César Costa Filho)

Chico Batera – Ritmo (1979)

Let’s keep yesterday’s pace, when I released to Loronixers the anthological first album recorded by Banda Black Rio as the second post of the day. We are making the same with this second post, showing the first album of a very important musician, listed on several albums available at Loronix. Let’s see.

This is Chico Batera – Ritmo (1979), for Som Livre. Chico Batera debut LP with several special guests. When I took this album for a first hearing, I was ready to hear something very different, such like Brazilian Jazz or Samba. However, Chico Batera and his guests deliver something very different. Ritmo is a great Funky album with vocals, guitars, distortion, etc. really surprising. I don’t have any experience with further Chico Batera solo albums, but I think this session is one of a kind.

Tracks include:

Personnel:

Chico Batera
(arrangements, drums)

Sérgio Dias
(from Os Mutantes)
(guitar)

Tavinho Bonfa
(violao)

Robertinho de Recife
(guitar)

Amelinha
(vocals)

Terezinha de Jesus
(?)

Lee Marcucci
(bass)

and the special guests Fagner, Dom Beto, Carlos Dafe, Joao Bosco, and others…

Track List:

01 – Você (Chico Batera) with Fagner
02 – Yndaya-ê (Nelsinho do Pandeiro)
03 – La Rumba (Dom Beto / Reina / Sergio Mello) with Dom Beto
04 – A Ilha (Chico Batera / Carlos Dafé) with Carlos Dafé
05 – No Va Más (Dom Beto / Reina)
06 – Zezé (Chico Batera)
07 – Bolero Para Ti (Chico Batera)
08 – Tiro de Misericórdia (João Bosco / Aldir Blanc) with João Bosco
09 – Nana-yo (Chico Batera)
10 – Lili (Chico Batera)

Zeca,

How came you could expect to listen to Brazilian Jazz or Samba in an album that has this guys: Sérgio Dias (from Os Mutantes) and Robertinho do Recife, two of the best rock guitarists in Brazil?
Hehe, I believe these guys were “bad” influence to Chico Batera and that’s why there’s the distortion and all… jeje
I confess that I did not plan to download this album right now, it almost went to my future list… but when I saw these guys I mention, especially Sérgio Dias, I just have to download it…
Thanks for sharing it. I never heard anything by Sérgio Dias except all of his Os Mutantes albums and his solo career.
Take care, tudo de bom pra você!

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 01 de agosto 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

Hello, good evening! Let’s start this Tuesday by another album on “Para Dancar” style, featuring a really obscure artist. I was reluctant to show this album, since I do not have a single piece of information on Noel Vernon, except he played on Jiral nightclub in Rio de Janeiro. Anyway, the album is really good for those who like the style. Let’s see what happens.

This is Noel Vernon e Seu Conjunto – Sequencia de Ouro (1961), for Musicolor, featuring instrumental renditions of classic Bossa Nova tunes and America standards performed with bass, drums, piano, guitar, flute and percussion. I hope someone brings more clarification on this artist that released also another record for Copacabana, which is Noel Vernon e Seu Conjunto – Cha-Cha-Cha & Twist no Jirau. This cover is great.

Tracks include:

01 – The Song Is You (O. Hammerstein II / J. Kern) Once In While (Edwards / Green) You do Something To Me (Cole Porter)
02 – Ansiedad (José Enrique Sarabia Rodriguez) Naquele Tempo (Pixinguinha / Benedito Lacerda) It’s Wonderful (George Gershwin / Ira Gershwin) O Barquinho (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
04 – Sonho e Saudade (Tito Madi) Destinos (Djalma Ferreira / Luis Antônio) Teleco-teco Nº 2 (Nelsinho / Oldemar Magalhães)
05 – Enamorada (Rafael de Leon / A. Algueró Jr.) Chi Cha Cha (Reginaldo Ferreria Passo) Dance On Little Girl (Paul Anka)

This magnificent album features the last recordings of Dick Farney taken from a mix of concert and speech performed at MIS – Museu da Imagem e do Som, in Sao Paulo, 1987. Additionally, Dick Farney performs several songs, the songs that he like most to play, recorded at Dick Farney home by a friend, Cesar Pereira Lopes using a professional tape recorder. This record was not released commercially; it was part of a marketing initiative of a Brazilian company, Polibrasil, in the celebration of its 10th anniversary.
This is Dick Farney – Dick Farney (1988), for Polibrasil, a double album featuring a single track on disc one, side A, the last Dick Farney concert at MIS and remaining tracks the remastered home tapes recorded by Dick Farney at home through several sessions in 1975. Thanks once again Luiz Harding for sending this very hard to find album to our community, this is a very moving album for Dick Farney fans all around the world.

Tracks include:

01 – On The Sunny Side Of The Street (D. Fields / J. McHugh)
02 – Prelúdio Nº 20 de Chopin (Frederic Chopin)
03 – These Foolish Things (J. Stachey / H. Link / H. Marvell)

Hello Lieschen,

This is not a problem, Side A Disc one is the first download, which is a single track file including the four initial songs.
Cheers, zeca

Zeca, acho que essa obra é póstuma! Inclusive no 2o LP, a voz do Dick é ouvida meio embargada, claudicante.

Hello, Good Evening! Let’s start the day with another of those very popular “Para Dancar” albums, Loronixers like it a lot and they are downloaded a lot. By the way, for more than a decade, these “Para Dancar” releases were really popular, people use to buy these records like crazy for several purposes, such as parties, events and even to dance at home.
I remember last month when a very old lady on my building gave a donation of LPs to Loronix, she had the work to separate “Para Dancar” titles from the other albums. She was afraid that I would not like them and she got very happy when I said that the style was one of my favorites and one of the favorites at Loronix. Now she is addicted to Loronix and when we meet each other at hallways she say nice things about me and says that her life has now some kind of new meaning.
This is something that makes me feel very proud. Thanks Dona Alzira, tomorrow I will show you this text and we will have fun together.

This is Sexteto Guanabara – Sorvete Dancante Vol. 2 (1963), for Musiplay. Thanks Caetano for this album. Sexteto Guanabara released three LPs in the beginning of the 60′s decade, personnel is not identified and we have probably well-known musicians making some extra income at Musiplay. A very young Oscar Castro Neves, credited as Oscar A. Neves at the back cover, produces Sorvete Dancante Vol. 2.

Tracks include:

01 – Rio de Janeiro a Janeiro (Luis Antônio)
02 – Chega de Saudade (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
03 – Promessa (Custódio Mesquita / Evaldo Ruy)
04 – Ontem e Hoje (Getúlio Macedo / Irany de Oliveira)
05 – Foi Ela (Ary Barroso)
06 – Penha (Luis Peixoto / Vicente Paiva)
07 – Mulatinho (Nestor Campos)
08 – Zizinha (Bijou)
09 – Vai Mas Vai Mesmo (Ataulfo Alves)
10 – Come Prima (Panzeri / Di Paola / Taccani)
11 – Arrasta a Sandália (Osvaldo Vasques “Baiaco” / Aurélio Gomes)
12 – Lisboa Antiga (Raul Portela / J. Portela / A. do Vale)

This is one of my very favorite types of recordings, too. They are such period pieces! The story about the woman in your building is very touching. Amazing how very small things can make such a difference in a person’s day or life.
