Hello, good evening! A friend that left his nick with a nice comment sent this album. However, he did not leave and email and I don’t know if he wants to be identified with the alias he uses. He sent a really nice contribution, the third on the new FLAC format, featuring a very important artist that never had a chance to be introduced to our community, the Brazilian pianist Arthur Moreira Lima. Let’s see.

This is Arthur Moreira Lima – Arthur Moreira Lima Plays Tangos & Waltzes of Ernesto Nazareth (1982), for Intersound, recorded September 13-15, 1982, at the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters on the Steinway CD 372 piano.

Thanks to the now revealed AdHoc for this info. Arthur Moreira Lima is worldwide acclaimed as one of the best Frederic Chopin interpreters, being also a successful popular music artist. It is hard to write this in English, Arthur Moreira Lima is the kind of guy that everybody would like to meet in the end of the day at Copacanana to drink some beers, a very cool character and also one of the most renowned tricolores (friends who support Fluminense Football Club, a soccer team in Rio de Janeiro).
His works in the field of popular music includes his association with Paulo Moura, Elomar, Heraldo do Monte, Conjunto Epoca de Ouro, Ney Matogrosso, Rafael Rabello and Ernesto Nazareth, which is a very popular Brazilian composer that had a profound influence on the course of Brazilian music, such like Heitor Villa Lobos. I urge Loronixers to send feedback on this anthological record where once again classical music meets popular music.

Tracks include:

01 – Odeon (Ernesto Nazareth)
02 – Escorregando (Ernesto Nazareth)
03 – Duvidoso (Ernesto Nazareth)
04 – Eponina (Ernesto Nazareth)
05 – Batuque (Ernesto Nazareth)
06 – Fon-Fon (Ernesto Nazareth)
07 – Confidencias (Ernesto Nazareth)
08 – Famoso (Ernesto Nazareth)
09 – Mercedes (Ernesto Nazareth)
10 – Vem Ca, Branquinha (Ernesto Nazareth)
11 – Apanhei-te, Cavaquinho (Ernesto Nazareth)
12 – Brejeiro (Ernesto Nazareth)
13 – Bambino (Ernesto Nazareth)
14 – Sarambeque (Ernesto Nazareth)
15 – Carioca (Ernesto Nazareth)

Zeca,
This album was recorded in New York in 1982, following (or during) a concert at the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. It’s not the Marcus Pereira recording of 1977.
I forgot to send you my email when I dropped this post in your big box. I’ll do it with the next one.
Cheers.

For those who liked this stuff, just a reminder that there’s more of it. Arthur Moreira Lima also recorded two double Lps for “Discos Marcus Pereira” label in 1975 and 1977 with 49 piano pieces of Ernesto Nazareth. They were later released as 4 individual CDs that are rare, but still can be found at Amazon or CD Point (Arthur Moreira Lima interpreta Ernesto Nazareth vol 1-4). To say that Moreira Lima’s playing and these recordings are amazing is an understatement. They’re “desert island list” and “best of bests, anytime, anywhere, any-kind-of music” items. Nazareth’s pieces, specially the “tangos” (nowadays we would call them “choros”), are Chopin meets Africa (via habaneras), and are absolutely essential for understanding the roots of Brazilian music. Nazareth wrote some 200 piano pieces (tangos, waltzes, polkas, mazurkas…; see complete list here:
http://www.chiquinhagonzaga.com/nazareth/). Sadly, the large majority of these pieces have never, ever been recorded. I still hope that Moreira Lima will come back to this music, recording all of it in the original piano piece form as published by Nazareth himself. My second best hope is that a young and talented pianist in Brazil (there are many) gives it a try, para o bem de todos e a felicidade geral da nação. Hey, people at Biscoito Fino, Trama and Kuarup Records, what are you waiting for?

Dear adhoc,
You said “Sadly, the large majority of these pieces have never, ever been recorded. “. I’d like to take the chance and tell you (and everyone) of the series I’m recording focusing Ernesto Nazareth’ rare pieces. We’re at the 29th consecutive week, and virtually all of the pieces had never been recorded on its original piano solo version.

Caro Alexandre Dias,

Nina

Since we made a
Cristina Buarque EP some weeks ago, friends got excited to hear the whole LP where that EP tracks were taken. I’m glad to find it on a very good condition in the beginning of this week, and I’m amazed with this album and with the delicate voice and Cristina Buarque interpretation. Cristina Buarque delivers a very solid album, above the average for a debut LP. Let’s see.

This is Cristina Buarque – Cristina (1973), for RCA Victor. Justin Thyme will be pleased with another RCA Victor studios Samba album. Cristina performs a repertoire of Sambas with some beautiful forgotten selections from Samba legends from the past, such like Noel Rosa and Lupscinio Rodrigues, along with Samba composers from the 70′s, with highlights to Dona Ivone Lara, Paulinho da Viola, Nelson Cavaquinho and others. Cesar Camargo Mariano delivers arrangements and piano playing and some tracks and Cristina Buarque as the accompaniment of a constellation of Brazilian musicians, such as Cartola playing violao on track 02 – Ao Amanhecer. Inside the music, you will find detailed information on each song composers and musicians.

Tracks include:

Cesar Camargo Mariano
(arrangements, piano)

Paulinho da Viola
(cavaquinho, percussion)

Somente posso dizer uma palavra a respeito deste blog:
S E N S A C I O NA L ! ! ! ! !

zecalouro said…
This is Cristina Buarque – Cristina (1974), at Loronix, here.

Here we go on another EP, featuring an artist never shown before to Loronixers. Actually, I’m amazed with the new EP possibilities. They are pretty easy to make, for instance, this one is fresh as a cake taken from the oven. It is just a matter to find, bake and serve. The cover fits the scanner and you don’t need to make several scans and stitch everything. Truly great.

This is Cristina – Cristina (1974) for RCA Victor. Cristina is the artistic name of Cristina Buarque de Hollandam sister of the renowned Chico Buarque de Hollanda. She started her professional career in 1967 with a participation on Paulo Vanzolini – Onze Sambas e Uma Capoeira, recording her first and self titled album in 1974 with songs from several Samba names, such as: Dona Ivone Lara, Manaceia, Nelson Cavaquinho, Cartola and others. It is a very well produced album and this EP has four tracks taken from this debut LP.

Tracks include:

Personnel

Paulinho da Viola
(cavaquinho)

Cesar Faria
(violão)

Marcal, Eliseu, Luna, Jorginho, Paulinho da Viola, Carlinhos, Henriquinho
(percussion)

Felpudo

Joao Gilberto – Cantando as Musicas de Orfeu do Carnaval | EP 45rpm (1959) now complete

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 03 de outubro 2007.
Comentários originais incluídos.

Update: I was loosing my hope to have this album with the four tracks; I’m always underestimating the strength of our community. Galego, which is a brand new friend of Loronix, sent it to us a few minutes ago in a very nice quality. This is the reason for making it again, once again, direct link to music, no Rapidshare.
I would like to thanks Galego for providing 04 – Frevo, the missing track.

This post was a blockbuster with more than 700 downloads so far.
A Loronixer sent this album to us in the end of 2006 and did not identify himself. Since then, I have been searching for a missing track 04 – Frevo (Antonio Carlos Jobim). I decided today to do not wait anymore and I’m asking the help of our community to find this missing track and complete this little record. This is the reason why download is been provided as a direct link, no Rapidshare.

This is Joao Gilberto – Cantando as Musicas de Orfeu do Carnaval | 45rpm (1959), for Odeon, featuring songs taken from Black Orpheus original song track. While friends are searching for the missing track, it is a good idea to listen to Joao Gilberto performing the three ones available.

Tracks include:

01 – A Felicidade (Antonio Carlos Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
02 – Manha de Carnaval (Luiz Bonfa / Antonio Maria)
03 – O Nosso Amor (Antonio Carlos Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
04 – Frevo (Antonio Carlos Jobim)

Os Romanticos – Bossa Nova (No date)

I think we are entering on a phase where everybody is excited to know not credited artists behind Bossa Nova albums. Caetano Rodrigues comes to bring another contribution to our community. Caetano comes with a challenge, delivering an album that I could not gather any info about. Let’s see.

This is Os Romanticos – Bossa Nova (no date), for unknown label. I’m not sure if Caetano Rodrigues knows the Brazilian label that issues Os Romanticos, otherwise, this should be the first album released at Loronix with a non-identified label. Anyway, the mystery is not finished; we don’t know who is Os Romanticos, musicians and release date.

The album features soft instrumental Bossa Nova renditions performed with percussion, bass, guitar, accordion and violin. Caetano urges Loronixers to get more information about Os Romanticos – Bossa Nova.

Tracks include:

01 – Lindos Olhos Azuis
02 – Preciso dar um Jeito
03 – Chega de Sofrer
04 – Depois do Carnaval
05 – Historia
06 – Corcovado
07 – O Amor em Paz
08 – De Mais Amor
09 – Menino Desce Dai
10 – Samba em Preludio
11 – Deixa a Nega Gingar

Woow! That’s a great release with all the ingredients that I like. This is Trio Surdina, an instrumental trio that released more than 70 records, all released for the same record label, the legendary Musidisc of Nilo Sergio. Probably, Trio Surdina is Nilo Sergio creation since the name surdina is a joke, meaning that members cannot be revealed.

Trio Surdina members were not revealed due contract obligations with other record labels, great Musidisc idea. Obviously, they were revealed or discovered later and most of Trio Surdina recordings were made by Fafa Lemos (violin), Garoto (guitar) and Chiquinho (accordion). Garoto – Anibal Augusto Sardinha – is a renowned Brazilian guitarist.

This is Trio Surdina – Trio Surdina em Bossa Nova (1963), for Musidisc. The line-up for this Trio Surdina “edition” is Waltel Branco (guitar), Chiquinho do Acordeom (accordion) and Patane (violin). Please give me your feedback about Trio Surdina; I have earlier releases that I can share with friends in a near future.

Tracks include:

01 – Corcovado (Tom Jobim)
02 – História (Nilo Sergio)
03 – Depois do Carnaval (Silvino Júnior / Wilson Tirapelli)
04 – Chega de Sofrer (Luis Paulo / Orlann Divo)
05 – Preciso Dar Um Jeito (Silvio César)
06 – Lindos Olhos Azuis (Waltel Branco / Ivo Branco)
07 – Que Saudade (Ed Lincoln)
08 – Deixa a Nega Gingar (Luis Cláudio)

Veremos.
Grande Abraço, zeca

No, Trio Surdina was not Nilo Sergio creation, and the name did not come from him but from the radio program on which the trio first played. The real Trio Surdina (i.e., the first formation) recorded only in 1952-53. You can read about it here:

Hello, good evening! Let’s start today with a group that started as “trial” and now is a real mania among Loronixers, I’m talking about Les 4 Cadillacs, another nice creation of Musidisc owner Nilo Sergio. We have already three Les 4 Cadillacs albums available at Loronix, and this one is perhaps the best one, being also the most popular, perhaps by the cover showing these four Cadillacs. Let’s see.

We have a major change on our Les 4 Cadillacs sequel, in addition to the band leader, the legendary Ed Lincoln at the piano, vinylmaniac provided a couple of days ago the identification of the three other Cadillacs, thanks vinylmaniac! Hello, good evening! Let’s start today showing an album released by this tiny, but legendary and influential label Paladium, a favorite of 10 among 10 serious Bossa Nova collectors. Palladium was the first recording label established in the state of Minas Gerais, working close with Minas Gerais artists at the beginning of their career. However, these artists are not credited on Paladium albums with their real artistic names, such as this album, a very early recording by an obscure Antonino Pellicciari, which is in fact the renowned Maestro Aecio Flavio.

These findings are being revealed by our friend vinylmaniac at CBox and several Paladium collectors, such like Marcelo “Sambassonic” Munhoz cannot wait to hear the next finding by vinylmaniac. This is the reason why I’m posting this album in the Para Dancar style, how could I know that Antonino Pellicciari was Maestro Aecio Flavio nickname. Let’s see.

This is Antonino Pellicciari e Seu Conjunto – MGL Apresenta Sucessos do Momento (1963), for Paladium, featuring Maestro Aecio Flavio as Antonino Pellicciari. This album was one of the first ones released by Paladium, directed by Maestro Edmundo Peruzzi, which will be the next Paladium release at Loronix.

Tracks include:

01 – Samba da Madrugada (Dora Lopes / Carminha Mascarenhas / Herotides)
02 – Bom Dia Café (Victor Simon)
03 – Bambolê (Victor Simon)
04 – Meu Nome É Ninguém (Haroldo Barbosa / Luis Reis)
05 – Ôba (Vicente Paiva / Chianca de Garcia)
06 – Bahia Feliz (Vicente Paiva / Jairo Argileo)
07 – Trovador de Toledo (Gilberto Becaud)
08 – Cubanacan (Moisés Simons / Sauvat / Chamfleury)
09 – Stela By Starlight (V. Young / N. Washington)
10 – Please (L. Robin / R. Rainger)
11 – Berioska (Adpt. Antoninho Pellicciari)
12 – Diane (E. Rapee / L. Pollack) Charmaine (E. Rapee / L. Pollack)

Martoni:

Hello, good evening! Let’s start this Monday with another album sponsored by zecalouro’s mother, which is gradually becoming a great finder. Mon has been delivering solid records, presenting this time an artist and an orchestra never released before at Loronix. Let’s see.

This is Delano | Orquestra Milionarios Del Rio – Bronzes & Cristais (1963), for Copacanana, featuring the Brazilian guitarist Delano backed by Orquestra Milionarios Del Rio with arrangements by Maestro Guerra Peixe and Pachequinho. I never heard about Orquestra Milionarios Del Rio, however, my searches results in two additional albums, each one with a different main performer, such as this one with Delano. The others are Orquestra Milionarios Del Rio em Hollywood featuring Ronnie Will and Orquestra Milionarios Del Rio em Hollywood Vol. 2, featuring Chaim Lewak, the legendary pianist. Maestros Guerra Peixe and Pachequinho deliver nice orchestra arrangements to back Delano guitar. Remaining personnel is not credited.

Tracks include:

01 – Bronzes e Cristais (Alcyr Pires Vermelho / Nazareno de Brito)
02 – Et Maintenant (E Agora) (Gilbert Bécaud / P. Delanoe)
03 – It Happened In Athenas (M. Hadjidakis / C. Haldeman)
04 – Swedish Rhapsody (C. Wildman)
05 – Georgia On My Mind (H. Carmichael)
06 – Come September (Quando Setembro Vier) (B. Darin)
07 – Balada do Amor Sublime (Luis Vieira)
08 – Autumn Love Song (Canção de Outono) (Vaughn / Wood)
09 – Tema de Meia-noite (Nazareno de Brito)

Zezinho e Seu Conjunto – Zezinho e Seu Sombalanço (1965)

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 30 de outubro 2007.

Here we go on another record kindly sent by tcisalpino, which is so far our consistent FLAC contributor. tcisalpino makes something different, instead of a reposting he brings a LP never released before at Loronix, a nice and very solid album. Let’s see.

This is Zezinho e Seu Conjunto – Zezinho e Seu Sombalanco (1965), for Chantecler. First thing, a few other artists with the name “Zezinho” exist, this Zezinho should not be taken as Zezinho from Zezinho e Os Copacabanas or Zezinho, the bass player. Jose Batista da Silva Junior (Zezinho) is a pianist and arranger, being an active musician since the 50′s.

He recorded four albums for Chantecler, being this one his debut LP. Zezinho plays piano and makes arrangements for Zezinho e Seu Sambalanco delivering above the average instrumental renditions to Bossa Nova standards and some unknown tunes. Strongly recommended.

Tracks include:

Personnel

Zezinho
(piano, arrangements)

Lula
(piston)

Sehittino
(sax tenor)

Ditinho
(trombone)

Cacau
(guitar)

Gerson
(bass at The Blues Walk and Abre Ala)

Capacete
(bass)

Jurandir
(drums)

Turquinho, Nascimento, Carlinhos, Lourinho
(rhythm section)

Track List

01 – Não Me Diga Adeus (Paquito / Luis Soberano / João Correia da Silva)
02 – Pra Seu Governo (Haroldo Lobo / Milton de Oliveira)
03 – Rosinha no Balanço (Felippe Tedesco / Mário Gennari Filho)
04 – Xiborena (Tabú / Fernando Marcel)
05 – Melancolia (Denis Brean)
06 – Abre Ala (B. Lobo / Inha / Belém)
07 – The Blues Walk (C. Brown)

10 – Garota Moderna (Evaldo Gouveia / Jair Amorim)

Sounds interesting. By the way, in case anyone’s wondering, “piston” actually translates as flugelhorn.

Carmen Miranda – A Pequena Notável (no date)

Hello, good evening! Nice Sunday in Rio de Janeiro, a perfect weather with the sun between clouds. I had a really pleasant day with Mon, Daddy, Brothers and my other birds, Juca, Juliana, Lila, Julinha. Anyway, perfect day. Among Mom contributions, I found this one, an album that I did not know the existence that fits perfect to address a demand of many Loronixers for Carmen Miranda. Let’s see.

This is Carmen Miranda – A Pequena Notavel (no date), for MIS. Although a true Brazilian popular music legend, I never found a record featuring Carmen Miranda with this kind of detail. There are several compilations available, but they are always assembled with no criterion, additional information and chronological standpoint.

This one is different, released under a careful research by MIS and features Carmem Miranda backed by Pixinguinha, Benedito Lacerda, Simon Boutman, Conjunto Odeon, Barbosa Junior, Luperce Miranda and others. The recordings were taken from the years of Carmen Miranda in Brazil before she made her move to the US, with the exception of track 11 – Disseram que Voltei Americanizada. If you are among the group of many friends waiting for Carmen Miranda, the waiting is over.

Tracks include:

01 – Cachorro Vira-lata (Alberto Ribeiro) – Featuring: Conjunto Regional de Benedito Lacerda (1937)
02 – Camisa Listrada (Assis Valente) – Featuring: Grupo da Odeon (1937)03 – Eu Dei (Ary Barroso) – Featuring: Conjunto Regional (1937)04 – Quem É (Custódio Mesquita / Juraci Camargo) – Featuring: Barbosa Júnior e Grupo da Odeon (1937)
05 – Deixa Falar (Nelson Petersen) – Featuring: Ary Barroso (introdução falada) e Orquestra Odeon (1938)
06 – Na Baixa do Sapateiro (Ary Barroso) – Featuring: Orquestra Odeon (Reg. Simon Bountman) (no date)
07 – Me Dá Me Dá (Portello Juno / Cícero Nunes) – Featuring: Conjunto Regional de Benedito Lacerda (1937)
08 – Como “Vaes” Você (Ary Barroso) – Featuring Conjunto Regional de Pixinguinha e Luperce Miranda (1936)09 – E o Mundo Não Se Acabou (Assis Valente) – Featuring: Conjunto Regional (1938)
10 – Na Bahia (Herivelto Martins / Humberto Porto) – Featuring: Trio Dalva de Oliveira e Conjunto Regional (1938)
11 – Disseram Que Voltei Americanizada (Vicente Paiva / Luis Peixoto) – Featuring:Conjunto Odeon (1940)12 – No Tabuleiro da Baiana (Luis Barbosa) – Featuring: Luperce Miranda e Seu Conjunto (1936)

Comentários originais incluídos.

Yesterday’s III Loronix Singles Festival had no feedback, perhaps I need to fine tune my picks and that’s what I’m trying to accomplish with the III Loronix EP Festival, featuring two artists with great popularity among Loronixers. Let’s see.

This is Os Cariocas – Os Cariocas de Quatrocentas Bossas (1965), for Philips, the “reduced” version of the homonymous LP, one of the Os Cariocas albums that I like most and one of the nicest covers so far at Loronix.

Tracks include:

01 – Preciso Aprender a Ser So (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
02 – Sabe Voce (Carlos Lyra / Vinicius de Moraes)
03 – Gente (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
04 – Carro de Boi (Mauricio Tapajos / Antonio Carlos de Brito)

Now we are going with four Elis Regina records in a row, one EP and three singles, as follows:

This is Elis Regina – Elis Regina (1971), EP, for Philips, with arrangements by Cesar Carmargo Mariano with tracks taken from ELIS (1971).

Tracks include:

01 – Osanah
02 – Nada Sera Como Antes
03 – A Filha de Chico Bento
04 – Casa no Campo

This is Elis Regina – Elis Regina (1965), single, for Philips, featuring Arrastao, winner of I Festival de Musica Popular Brasileira.

Tracks include:

01 – Arrastao
02 – Aleluia

This is Elis Regina – Elis Regina (1966), single, for Philips, featuring Saveiros and Canto Triste from I Festival Internacional da Cancao Popular.

Tracks include:

01 – Saveiros
02 – Canto Triste

This is the great close with the one that I like most, a single, recorded live at Teatro Record, Sao Paulo.

Tracks include:

01 – Canto de Ossanha
02 – Rosa Morena
