Paulo Freire – Orgao + Batucada = Samba (1978)

Hello, good evening! I’m really satisfied with the quality of the music we had at Loronix across the last days.

The idea is to slow down a little bit the release of new music and keep a strong pace on links reactivation. I think this new approach is really good, as the feedback received has been positive with no exceptions.

Anyway, today is Saturday and we need some relaxation, after all, Saturday is the day of Samba at Loronix.
Let’s see.

This is Paulo Freire – Orgao + Batucada = Samba (1978), for Copacabana, featuring the Brazilian organist Paulo Freire, probably unknown to many friends. Paulo Freire delivers infectious Samba grooves on top of a Samba repertoire full of very popular songs. I must admit this album is my first experience with Paulo Freire, which is some kind of late Andre Penazzi, very active on recordings throughout the 70′s. This album works according to what is proposed to be and I believe it is a great treat for those who like organ playing with Samba rhythm.

Tracks include:

01 – Ilha de Maré (Walmir Lima / Lupa)
02 – Osso Duro de Roer (Benito di Paula) Assobiar Ou Chupar Cana (Benito di Paula)
03 – Mulher à Brasileira (Luis Ayrão)
04 – O Que Será (Flor da Terra) (Chico Buarque) Meu Caro Amigo (Chico Buarque / Francis Hime)
05 – O Que Você Tem Garota (Jorginho do Império / Dico da Cuíca)
06 – Vou Levando Meu Canto (Nerino Silva / Marinaldo)
07 – Vai Ou Não Vai (Martinho da Vila)
08 – Quando Será (Zé Rodrix / Livi)
09 – Propagas (Jorge Lucas)
10 – Olho Por Olho (Daniel Santos / Zé do Maranhão) Oi Compadre (Martinho da Vila)
11 – O Barba Azul (Chico da Silva / Venâncio)
12 – Coisa da Antiga (Wilson Moreira / Nei Lopes)
13 – Black Samba (Voltaire / Antônio Carlos) Saco de Feijão (Francisco Santana)

Varios Artistas – Introdução (1965)

Originalmente postado no Loronix em 23 de abril 2008.

Hello, good evening! There is a curiosity behind this post and this album, I will tell you.

This is a contribution made in December 2006 by our great friend Caetano Rodrigues and at that time, I could not understand what was behind this album, except the concept of presenting new artists, which is quite clear through the title, Introducao. However, I did not understand the reason of the phrase “Teenager Series” in the lower right.

We received this week the visit of Juliana Mingotti, who said to be looking for this album for a couple of years. Juliana is the daughter of Wagner Mingotti, author of the first track and pianist of Wan Trio, participating also at the second track as bassist. Wan Trio is the best this album has to offer, recorded by Wagner Mingotti when he was sixteen and probably, all others are below eighteen.

In a quick search, I could realize that Silvinha was the participant that could develop a solid career and according with Juliana, Wagner Mingotti decided to terminate his artistic career after recording this album, which is again available for everyone to know the work of Wagner and all artists at this session. I am keeping the original text, with some modifications.
Let’s see.

This is Introducao (1965), for Mocambo, a unique opportunity to listen for the fist time several artists that we never heard before, such as: Wan Trio – Bossa Jazz, Patricia – Singer, Impulso 4 – Bossa Jazz (this one everybody knows), Tony Carbonell – Instrumental, Quinteto Berimbossa – Bossa Jazz, Joao Paulo – Singer, Silvinha – Singer, Octons – Instrumental and Ezequiel – Singer. Most of these artists were probably not successful on their careers and this is what makes this LP a very interesting piece.

Tracks include:

01 – Selvagem (Wagner Mingotti) – Wan Trio
02 – Onde Está Você (Oscar Castro Neves) – Patrícia
03 – Morte de Um Deus de Sal (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli) – Impulso 4
04 – Desarmonia (Tony Carbonell) – Tony Carbonell
05 – Blues Walk (C. Brown) – Quinteto Berimbossa
06 – História de Duas Crianças (Tony Carbonell / Hernesto Domingues) – João Paulo
07 – Maria Moita (Carlos Lyra) – Silvinha
08 – Tokio’s Blue (H. Silver) – Octons
09 – Paz e Amor (Ezequiel Silva / João Magalhães) – Ezequiel
10 – A Felicidade (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes) – Quinteto Berimbossa

Márcia – Eu e a Brisa (1968)

Hello, good evening! I thought life would be much easier making a single post daily to leave the rest of the time to the activities for the reconstruction activities. However, in practical terms, this daily pick has been very difficult (and of course, very funny). This is all about balance and taking a look on previous releases

I think it is time to make a Bossa Nova album performed by a female singer, breaking the sequence of instrumental albums of the last few days. I hope we all enjoy this one
Let’s see.

This is Marcia – Eu e a Brisa (1968), for Philips, which is the debut LP of this really important and unfortunately underated artist. Marcia performed with great artists like Vinicius de Moraes, Paulo Cesar Pinheiro and her long time partner Baden Powell.

This album has also important for being the first recording of Johnny Alf’s Eu e a Brisa, previously performed by Marcia at III Festival da Musica Popular Brasileira (1968).

The back cover brings liner notes written by Flávio Cavalcanti, who decided not to mention anything about the musicians, just making comments about Marcia.

Tracks include:

01 – Eu e a Brisa (Johnny Alf)
02 – Pra Machucar Meu Coração (Ary Barroso)
03 – Canção Que Morre no Ar (Carlos Lyra / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
04 – Se a Gente Morresse de Amor (Lindolfo Gaya / Helder Camara)
05 – É Preciso Dizer Adeus (Tom Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes)
06 – Passa Por Mim (Marcos Valle / Paulo Sergio Valle)
07 – A Volta (Roberto Menescal / Ronaldo Bôscoli)
08 – Samba da Pergunta (Pingarilho / Marcos Vasconcellos)
09 – Dorme Profundo (Pingarilho / Marcos Valle)
10 – Aula de Matemática (Tom Jobim / Marino Pinto)
11 – De Você Eu Gosto (Tom Jobim / Aloysio de Oliveira)
12 – Eu Também Preciso de Você (Silvinha Telles)

Sebastião Tapajós – Violão & Amigos (1979)

Sebastiao Tapajos is a gifted musician. He has a classical background and started with his instrument at the age of nine, encouraged by his own father, being also his first teacher. His classical training and interest in popular music defined his style by a blend of the two schools, providing a transparent connection between the classical and popular. Sebastiao Tapajos has close to 50 albums recorded, in Brazil and outside.

However, most of his discography is still unknown to me, his albums are hard to find, especially those recorded on vinyl and who never had a chance of a reprint on CD. Violao & Amigos is a great find.

Let’s see.

This is Sebastiao Tapajos – Violao & Amigos (1979), for RCA Victor, with the participation of Hermeto Pascoal, Paulo Moura and Mauricio Einhorn. I found this one a week ago, being sold for a ridiculous price. Since then, he has been constantly spinned. I was not able to accomplish an acceptable back cover restoration; being offered in the state it was found. I think this is a rather unknown record and I’m confident that our community will receive it with enthusiasm.

Tracks include:
